2000 Ford Expedition Airbag Suspension

I have a 2000 Ford Expedition that I absolutely adore and it has not given me any major problems. However, for the past 2 months something strange is happening with my airbag suspension. If the car is not running for more than 6 hours, the rear just drops totally to the ground. Then when I start the car I can hear the compressor go on and the rear lifts up normally. I know that it can be anything from bad springs, to the relay, to a leak in the airlines. But being that it does fill up and rides perfectly and only de-inflates after a long time, what would the most probable cause be?? If anyone can tell me I would appreciate it, that way I don't get taken for a fool when I take it to a mechanic or dealer since that is favorite hobby being that I am a woman!! Thanks!!

There is a possibility of a pin hole in a line to a valve hanging that is allowing the air to escape causing the lowering of the vehicle. Without looking at it, it is hard to pinpoint the exact problem. Good luck with it.

Here are the possibilities on your problem. The way these systems work its almost(not impossible) impossible that the lines themselves are at fault. The valves that control the airflow to the bags(known as solenoids) close when the vehicle is off. So what this means is its either the bags or solenoid o-rings in which case it would backfeed to the lines and then you would have a leak there which would mean you have two leaks. Start with the bags its really easy just spray them with soapy water and you'll see bubbles where ever it is you have the leak. IF you don't feel like doing this yourself I would strongly reccomend taking the vehicle somewhere the compressor was not meant to work this hard and usually what ends up happening is failure. Even a good aftermarket compressor for this system will run at least $200.
