I have an 07 VW Beetle Convertible. Purchased new and after 2 months the top would not go back up. It has been at the dealership for 14 days. They said they don't know whats wrong with it and they can't fix it. Has anyone else had this problem?:runaround:

Ive seen a hydraulic line break on the new beetle convertibles, check the pump in the trunk to see if its got hydraulic fluid in it. but if they have it at the dealership im sure theyve already checked that.

I have a 2004 Beetle convertible that I bought used a year ago. I am having a lot of problems with the top not going all the way down-the flaps stay up and then the top wont go down or up. I turn the car off and on several times roll the windows up and down several times (the mechanic told me that this will reset it) and drive around the parking lot until it finally will go down. Needless to say everyone nearby thinks I am crazy while I am doing this. I have had it to the dealership at least four times and every time they say they have fixed it put in a new motor, a new arm a new switch etc but it still is not fixed. I think it hates me! Does anyone else have problems like this?

I also have a 2004 with less than 8,000 miles on it and we have had the same problem with the top. Replaced switch, motor, blah, blah blah. Taking it in again this Tuesday, I will let you know the outcome.

I have a 2003 GLS convertible bug... The flap on the driver's side broke off! UG! I'm now looking for the part to have it replaced. It's a good thing it happened right before I bought the car... The dealership is going to replace it but I figured I would look up the part for future reference. It seems that the convertible top has a bracket on it that slides up a rail, that bracket was popped off and caught the flap as it was going up. And, SNAP! Poor flap! (Anyone know exactly what that flap is called? and how much it is to have it replaced?)

Unfortunately that little flap is pretty expensive. The passenger side "flap" (body-matched color) snagged on the top and snapped the lower wire that controls when the flap goes up and down. Actually a complex little bit of equipment there when you look closely. Anyway, it was within 2 days of buying the car and the used car dealer fixed it. Since they have to order the part (came from Germany!) and fix the system, and paint the new flap to match our car, it was over $500. Perhaps it could have been done cheaper if we begged them to figure out a way.

Now anytime we put the top down we watch those little wires to see if anything might catch. Kinda took the fun out of putting the top down.

I noticed they got rid of those flap/covers on the newer year models... too bad, because it has a gaping hole with metal bits down there on the newer models. Guess a lot of them were breaking?
