Light mounting and locking?ChuckH 09-18-2001, 02:04 AM Are you guys with aftermarket lights locking them down somehow so they can't be stolen? If so, how are you doing it? rrdstarr and I both ordered some lights (IPF JO-1's) and were thinking about that. I was thinking that if the bolt is long enough I'd just put two nuts on and that would be frustrating enough to deter someone, but I don't know. Any ideas? That's my silly question for the group! :D Schludwiller 09-18-2001, 05:21 AM Get a winch! Then they won't have easy access to the inside of your bumper where the lights bolt to. You can buy light locks, but I could still take your ARB and lights by removing 6 bolts (which is why mine is tack welded in the rear). Ag_xterra 09-18-2001, 12:21 PM i think overlander.com has light locks for IPF 10mm. they are about $19 per pair. Mobycat 09-18-2001, 07:11 PM If you buy the IPF locks - be SURE to write down the number on the key. I lost mine somewhere in West Virginia, and I had to go through a bunch at 4x4 Connection before I found a matching key. They have a LOT of combinations. ChuckH 09-18-2001, 10:09 PM Thanks guys! I didn't see the locks at overlander, but I can go back. I'm not too worried about them, but enough so that I want to take steps to atleast deter theives. rrdstarr 09-18-2001, 10:41 PM ChuckH if you decide to get them, or any kind of lock, get two sets and I'll pay you! :D ChuckH 09-18-2001, 11:00 PM Originally posted by rrdstarr ChuckH if you decide to get them, or any kind of lock, get two sets and I'll pay you! :D I'm thinking about it but I think I'll wait until I get the lights and see if there's another option. I just think $20 is a bit steep for a couple nuts! Synchro 09-19-2001, 10:21 AM Originally posted by ChuckH I'm thinking about it but I think I'll wait until I get the lights and see if there's another option. I just think $20 is a bit steep for a couple nuts! i agree they are a bit steep, but it is not just a "couble of nuts". they are special nuts, ones that requires a special key to tighten and loosen them. a key that your average thief probably doesn't have or even know where to get, much less have the right key since there are so many combinations as mobycat pointed out. do you have wheel locks? same principal in theory. Ag_xterra 09-19-2001, 10:32 AM after having someone try to steal my piaa 520 i decided to lock all my lights. if they would have had a rachet set they could have had my lights in 30 seconds flat. lucky for me all they did was to spin them, brake the wires and bend up my grille guard. $20 is a small investment for a $250 set of lights. OffroadX 09-19-2001, 10:52 AM I would imagine the "security fasteners/screws" in the bins at Lowes might be an alternative. I used those one-way screws like they use to build bathroom stalls to secure my tags. I know, they wouldn't use them if it hadn't happen. Heck, McDonalds put "Hot" on their coffee, now. Heck, McDonalds put "Hot" on their coffee, now. they just would take them apart. can you imagine a scavenger hunt? 1) match book from blah blah blah 2) one bathroom door from McDonalds. or better yet, a pledge trick for you fraternity types. have them go into somewhere and disassemble all the bathroom walls and stack them in the corner. you get the idea. rednec 09-19-2001, 11:49 PM All my ligthts are bolted on the top and bolt to the basket. I tight the gear basket screws down a little tighter so they'll have to work for my lights if they want them. My lights are Wal-mart specials so I won't be out much money if they do get stolen rrdstarr 09-20-2001, 12:19 AM Are they justed bolted to the basket with no reinforcement (ie. metal support strip)? You could trash your basket on a low branch!! :( rednec 09-20-2001, 12:25 AM The lights are mounted on a 2"x2" angled aluminum bracket. I also have the Yakima "Basket Case" safari basket that helps add support to the lights. The back of the lights rests against it. They don't vibrate to bad on bumpy roads. rrdstarr 09-20-2001, 12:33 AM Oops....I thought you meant attached to your gear basket...  rednec 09-20-2001, 01:39 AM Originally posted by rrdstarr Oops....I thought you meant attached to your gear basket...  The bracket is attached to the gear basket itself...... rrdstarr 09-27-2001, 03:15 PM These are the IPF locks I bought for the J01's I just purchased. They'll fit on any 10mm light, actually. They were less then $20 from Central 4WD. You'll need a 13/16 socket to put them on(it fit better than the 22mm?) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
