88 GMC 350 tbi cuts out and dieselsksierens 08-03-2007, 08:39 PM I have a 1988 GMC pickup with a 350 engine and TBI. The other day my wife said she was driving it and it just cuts out. After pulling it over, it seemed a little hard to start, but after a few cranks started right up. Other times it would act like it was going to stall, and would have poor power, then it would be ok again. I cleaned the TBI and drove it today and it also just cut out for me too. When it did, it also sounded like it was dieseling. I pulled it over and when cranking it over, it made the same dieseling noise, but then started up and ran fine. Did a vacuum gauge tested and all tests seemed fine. Any ideas? maxwedge 08-04-2007, 09:03 AM When this happens take the air cleaner off and see if both injectors are working, may need a second person to crank the engine. If ok I would check fuel pressure, you will need an adapter with the fuel press. tester to do this. 10-13 psi. This can be an ignition issue also, but start with the fuel system. ksierens 08-04-2007, 02:03 PM Did a fuel pressure test today, is is getting about 15psi when it is running. I also took it out for a drive again and it did cut out. I tried disconnecting the EGR value, and I still hesitated a few times real bad. ksierens 08-04-2007, 09:16 PM Well I took the ignition control module up tp AutoZone and he said it was bad. I bought a new one for $30 and so far so good. Thanks for all the help! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
