If I am not mistaken, you do not have a temp sensor on the 93.5 G20. Only the '94 and newer engines have the temp sensor on the factory air box that you have to retro fit onto the K&N cone filter.

Look in the picture below of an SE-R. You will see where the smaller breather filter goes by looking in the lower right hand corner of the screen.

http://se-r.net/multimedia/pictures/sentra_se-r/sean_bruce/mvc-032f.jpg

I found that picture on the SE-R.net under multimedia.

You probably had a hose that was connected to the AIV and to the air box that you removed when you took the air box out. The small filter goes where the hose was connected.

This is quoted from the SE-R.net on installation of the breather filter:
On SR20DEs from 91-93 you also need a small filter for the AIV (Air Induction Valve) to stay smog legal. The AIV is there to dump more air into the cat to keep it lit on idle and decel, by removing the OE air box you will now hear the reed inside the AIV canister. It makes a "spitting raspberrys" sound at idle and decel, it is completely normal, you never heard it before because the OE air box muffles this sound. In 94 and 95+ the AIV should be gone as Nissan improved the engine program enough that the ECU can control the engine well enough not to need the extra air (by fiddling with the mixture and timing).

Hope that helps. If not go to www.se-r.net and do some research.

I don't know what auto shops are near you, but Pep Boys carries breather filters. So does Advance Auto. You can also try

http://www.jegs.com JEGS Online

or

carparts.com, JCWhitney.com, StranoParts.com. They all carry breather filters.

I think the opening is 3/4". Don't know. Just measure it.

Since I can't see the picture you are referring to, the 93.5 probably does not have the black box. I will assume that is what you circled in the picture. Since it was a mid-year productin vehicle, it will have some of the '93 stuff and some of the '94 stuff, so you probably do not have the AIV box on your engine. They got rid of it in '94.

where does one find the smaller breather filter and what size is it...

See if pist wants to buy the breather filter from you. He is looking for one.

Any size will fit, infact I think that they are all the same. I have a 93.5 and I just did this less than a month ago, dude you do have the box. Put some lube on the end of the filter and force it in, it will fit. Just go to your local shop and they have them for like $12.

what exactly does a breather filter do??
does it give you more hp?

Ok here it goes. The black box is originally conected to your air box, by a hose. This is constintly sucking so that you can get air into the box. When you get rid of the box, you get rid of the hose. Now you have something sucking in air all the time still, but you have no filter. The breather valve, makes it so that you are sucking in clean air, and you dont damage your car. DONT run your car without the breather valve. It doesn't add to your HP, it just makes your air cleaner. If you want more HP let me know, I have a high flow cat for cheap never used still in wrappings gives you like 15 to 20HP! Or I have exhausts for sale, this is what gives you HP for realitively cheap. The filter only gets better starts and about 2-6HP depending on what you use. IF you have any questions or are interested in anything for your car let me know. :alien: :bloated: :licker: :smoka:

are you refering to me with regards to the box. if so, i checked and checked and checked, but still didn't find the box. as nismopc pointed out our cars are 93.5 so they have some stuff from a 93 and some from a 94. my car definitely does not have the breather box.

Guys...check out the production date of your car on the drivers side door sticker. I have a 93.5 but my production date was 1/93. Some will be later in 1993...and will have the incorporations of the 94 model year, but still sold as a 93.5.

GTRider,

If your 94 has the same setup sitting on top of the exhaust manifold as this picture shows from a previous post of mine, you do not have a 94 production engine in your car.

NOTE: There are two (2) "black boxes" as everyone is stating. The AIV box which is the box we are referring to sits in front of the other box. Look at the picture closely!

SO, if your engine has only one (1) that is NOT the AIV and you do NOT need a breather filter.

Is there a 'black box' on a 2000 G20? I know that there is a hose that goes to the air box, but im not sure where it goes to, but the new Stillen Intakes and JWT intakes have a little 'nipple' nozzel for those I think. correct me if im wrong
