96 S10 stalls when braking

My '96 S10 LS, 2.2, 5 speed, extended cab with 99k miles has developed a nasty habit of sputtering and stalling when applying the brakes.

It happens intermittently when the engine has warmed up to operating temp. If I push in the clutch and apply the brake heavily, the engine will die. Light braking makes the engine shudder and almost stall. It always starts right back up and runs fine until I get on the binders again.

I had the fuel pump replaced about 2 years ago for an unrelated problem. Other than that, the truck has no other issues that I can think would be related.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it could be the power brake booster

Power Brake Booster? Any more info on that would be appreciated. Where is it located? Are there lines or pipes to it that may have worked loose?

Add'l info - this only happens when the engine is up to warm, operating temp. And seems to get worse the warmer the engine is and the harder the brake is applied. There are no check engine lights or loose, deteriorated vacuum lines. Any troubleshooting help would really be appreciated.

It's the metal canister behind the brakes master cylinder on the drivers side firewall. It has a large vacuum tube that could be loose, or the power booster itself could be wearing out
