Looking to buy a '97 Trans Am Ram Air, need advice zipdashsmash 07-28-2007, 11:46 PM
I am considering buying a '97 Trans Am Ram Air from an acquaintance and I need some advice. I cannot readily have someone privately inspect the car before I buy it, so I was wondering if it was a good buy. The car is an automatic, V8 5.7 liter, and has 106,100 miles on it. What im curious about is if the engines on '97 Firebirds are built well enough to last another... 50-75,000 miles without major renovation needed. It has no history of accidents or damages. Thanks poormillionaire2 07-29-2007, 12:06 AM Depends on how hard its been beaten on. I've heard of LT1's going into the mid 200K+ range. With proper maintanance, should be fine. Just be aware, as with any car, mileage that high can cause a lot of wear-and-tear, so be prepared for things to wear out. philly rs 07-29-2007, 02:51 PM yeah...maf, water pump, coil packs, alt, the vats system, plugs and wires, tranny flush, new battery, new gaskets...i mean this is all the stuff i know i have replaced in the past at 120k and it varried..i had 2 96 camaros..one a v6 3800 and the one i currently have 5.7 Lt1. great cars just have to keep up on them. if the price is right and it drives well i say go for it toddr 08-02-2007, 01:29 AM if it looks well taken care of two things the opti spark dist. it is under the water pump 250for the part to replace and a new water pump 150 not to had but time consuming and the rear end have it check out my 93 had 78k and the rear was going out but it all in the maintanice besid thoes few this the cars last a long time and if you need to rebuild it you can get every thing fairily cheep compaired to an ls1 the dist will case poor performance an misfire but i am mechanic i rebuilt mine and loved every minute of it the car is great if the price is wright go for it Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
