I have problems with my '93 Passat ever since it turned 100,000.
After paying over $3,000 in maintainance cost I am left with an annoying coolant leak problem. So far 3 mechanics, including the ones at VW can't seem to find the cause. Coolant tank was replaced, hose replaced and pressure has been checked.
Still, the coolant leaks out every time I take it for a ride.

Any suggestions on what these mechanics are missing ?:(

have you checked your radiator?

Yeah, but there's no leak coming from that area. I checked the hose that connects under the coolant and runs to three other sections. It's a one piece with four connection hose.
I found a leak yesterday coming from the connection to the (what looks like a thermostat/control regulator). Also, there was a leak coming from the same area leading to a hose inside the car.

I figure either both hoses are old, or and, hose connections needs to replace the spring connections or, that thermostat type module is messing up the flow.

What do you think ?

i had a collant leak on my 93 VR6, my problem was 2 o-rings. you can find them in the front part of the engine below the 3 temperature switches (there's a blue, yellow and brown connectors). Right under you will find a black plasic piece that connects a rubber hose on the right had side, a plastic hose on the left hand side. The piece aloso is connected to the engine block with 2 allen screws (5mm). you have to take this part out and go with it to the dealer so he can give you the right o-rings. there are about $5 each (in canada) Make sure when you do this that alot of coolant will leak out.....well i hope this will fix your problem

you didn't mention that you are actually seeing coolant leak, did you?

if you do NOT see coolant leak then there is a possibility that
your head gasket is leaking. I'm assuming your mechanics checked
your oil (which would now take on a milky coloration). If your
oil is ok, then there is a possibility (like what happened on my
92 passat) that the gasket failed toward the cylinder(s), meaning
you are burning your coolant. If the leak is small you may not
even see it in your exhaust (I didn't).

i had a coolant leak when i bought my 93 passat this past July in 2005 and i had to get a new water pump. check your water pump and all your hoses around that area.
