passing another vehicleCarJunkie531 07-23-2007, 10:10 PM I heard someone say when your trying to pass someone in a stick shift like on a highway you need to drop down a gear to get high RMPs to pass him.Is this the best way?I'm new to the manual transmissions thanks -The Stig- 07-23-2007, 10:19 PM Depends on what kind of car you're driving. If it has enough torque to pull you past the other vehicle in a higher gear then you don't need to down shift. But if you're driving a little car with a little motor, odds are you'll probably have to bring it down a gear... or in some cases two gears to get enough grunt to get around. Dyno247365 07-26-2007, 02:03 PM The best way to pass someone with my truck and have a good speed, time my rpms, get a medium high rpm and shift up as I pass them. It's about getting your rpms up first. drunken monkey 08-06-2007, 09:41 AM let's not forget that road situation also plays a part. How fast you're going, how fast they're going, how fast traffic around you is, whta car you're driving, what car they're driving, etc. vectorspecialist 09-16-2007, 08:43 PM ok on a multi lane highway...i dont worry bout downshifting. as for single lane dashed lines... i down shift my stealth and go, shift as i go by then get infront of him. it just really depends on the amount of tq u have and where ur rpm is vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
