If you are stopped and you push the winter button it will start you out in 3rd gear, and then the light will go off at 25mph. It is nice in slippery conditions (snow), so your wheels do not spin (My truck is 2wd and the winter button works great for me in the snow).

1. oil pressure
2. all the power button is a drive mode that has different shift points than the normal shift pattern, namely the shifting rpm is higher (or more accurately higher speed) so that you get the affect, if not the actuality, of more power because you are in a lower gear longer. it can be helpful in hilly areas when you don't want to downshift into 3rd, and it is also sometimes helpful (or fun) around town when you want to 'drive'. because your rpms are generally higher, your fuel consumption will be also.

because its soo loud

Not sure how long you've had your Passport, but as I'm sure you know, that's an Isuzu engine in that engine bay - and, FWIW, Isuzu engines can sound like they're sucking in a world of air when you're taking off from a dead stop.

Personally, I love the sound, I always know when an Isuzu is coming down the street without even turning my head - BUT, not all newbies into the Isuzu world know, understand, or even like this.

I've always commented how my Rodeo reminds me of Air Wolf.

All of this aside however, it IS possible that your powermode button is stuck in the ON position - normally you can shut it off manually, OR it shuts off automatically when you shut the truck off and restart. But, if it's physically/mechanically stuck ON, it will also make the truck sound louder, and shift at higher rpm's too. ... Yes, it does use more gas in this situation.

Regarding the *sucking up gas* - (IF your powermode is OFF); how many mpg is it getting??

If you're in the 15-16mpg city, consider this very normal for a heavy SUV built on an actual truck frame, some even get down into 14mpg if you're on the skinny pedal from light to light. This is not your everyday lightweight, wanna-be midsized SUV, these trucks are on the heavy side and designed for work/play, etc.

Powermode works fantastic for climbing mountains at normal highway speed, or even taking off from a dead stop and have an extra need for the tranny to stay in lower gear longer.

Powermode has NOTHING to do with being in 4-wheel drive. If you have a 1st gen Rodeo 91-97 you should have a separate gear shift for 4-wheel drive, to the right of the transmission gear shift.

Wintermode starts you off in 3rd gear, push this with the transmission in Drive from a dead stop, if you're stuck in sand, mud, snow, or if you're sitting on a sheet of ice at a traffic light - this aids to prevent the truck from sliding around.
