1993 Major Problem!!!!

I have owned my olds for a little over two years. I purchased another vehicle about 6 months ago and haven't driven the olds for a few months. Nothing really was wrong with the car except maybe a tune up or a slightly high idle. One day I cranked it and noticed coolent leaking from the engine. Took it to the shop and I was told that it would take 2 days and cost me about 500.00. So I agreed. After replacing the radiator the mechanic called me and said my car was ready. When I came to pick it up the idle was wide open and smoke was coming from the tail pipe. I refuse to pick up my car in that condition and explained to the mechanic that the car did not have this problem when I dropped it off. He agreed to take another look at it and I left the car with them. 2 weeks later I check on the progress and now he tells me that the part I had him replace ( whatever the plastic thing that sits on the top of the engine that apparently the coolent passes through) cost me 250 bucks. Now that same part is melted inside and the mechanic has no idea why the car is not running properly when he replaced the computor. He is very eager for me to pick my car up and take it to another mechanic that can fix it. Should I remove my car from their shop and would that make them not liable for the work they have performed? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated on this issue. I am already out 750.00 and he wants me to pay him for putting bacj together the car he took apart and can't fix.

Welcome to AF. He replaced the upper intake and you have a problem with it being melted, this is unclear here. Who diagnosed this problelm to begin with? Radiator intake, what was done here?

The mechanic told me that the leak was coming from the intake gasket and told me it needed to be replaced along with the radiator. After he put the engine back together the car was smoking from the tail pipe which i believed was a problem that he created (mixing water and coolent).
So he replaced the gasket and the smoke was gone but now it has a very high idle. After replacing the computer the idle still was wide open he then took the intake off and noticed it was melted from the inside. Now he tells me that heat is getting into the intake and he doesn't understand why. Now he is in the process of putting everything back together and having me pick up the car and take it to another shop. I think he screwed up the engine but I am not for sure.

We cannot tell you from this desk what occured here without seeing the components involved, maybe the second tech can give you a more comprehensive opinion when he sees whats what. If you feel this was his problem stop the charge or address this with him directly.
