electric scavenger/oil pump ?s232FIed 07-15-2007, 03:26 PM hey im hoping someone can point me in the right direction. im looking for an inexpencive oil pump to mount on my firewall for a turbo project im currently working on. ive done some looking around and havent found anywhere close by selling them that i know of. i can go online and find a few small units good for 50psi but im not really wanting to order anything nor spend the $300-400. my last question is probably really stupid and you'll probably think im just trying the easy way out by asking but i work in a parts store and can get a universal electric fuel pumps no problem, that wouldnt work to pump oil though would it? UncleBob 07-15-2007, 07:35 PM if you are using it on the pressure side, you will have a hard time finding one that is high enough pressure and will live through the abuse. If you are using it as a scavenge pump, you don't need a very powerful pump at all. Turbo's don't flow much oil. Any fuel pump that is a gear type positive displacement pump would work fine. Holey red pumps are gear types I believe. Definitely do not use a billows type pump, or EFI type pump. They would not live for long....but keep in mind, even a gear type pump will eventually die, and hot oil shortens their life....but there's been many people on a turbo board I'm on that have ran them for years without issues vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
