A few questions. '94 GA SE.pyro_577 07-10-2007, 06:42 PM Does anyone know what I would need to do in order to move the battery to the trunk on a '94 Grand Am SE with a 3100? I need to get it out of the way to make my CAI work better. Also, I'm thinking of converting my rear brakes from drum brakes to disc brakes if there are benefits in doing so, and if there are what would they be? Thanks. GTP Dad 07-10-2007, 07:58 PM Welcome to AF!! In order to move the battery to the trunk you will need a vented battery box and some number "0" battery cable that is long enough to reach. The battery box should be plastic and have an external vent. You will need to run the cable along the under side of the car and tie it up with clamps or wire ties to make sure it stays where you put it. Finally, you will need to seal the holes in the floor of the trunk to keep the water out. As for the disc brake conversion they will work better than drum brakes as they have more stopping power. If you are using ones from a junk yard make sure everything works correct before attempting. Also you will may need a new master cylinder and a proportioning valve since discs are different than drums. pyro_577 07-11-2007, 05:11 PM Thanks for the help. So, would I be able to use the same rotors and calipers as the front if I decided to go with rear disc brakes? GTP Dad 07-11-2007, 07:17 PM NO! You must have rotors and calipers designed for rear brake applications. The rotors are usually made of different material and the calipers have an emergency brake built in to them. Some of the Pontiacs, namely Grand Prix use a seperate e-brake that is not a part of the caliper itself. Make sure you have the right equipment before starting this job. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
