Hi I have a 91 with a 3VZE V6 engine with 130k miles. The head gasket is blown( according to compression test and it is leaking water into the oil). I called Toyota to have it replaced but they said it has already been replaced once by the previous owner and they cant do it again. They also said it would cost 1500+. I was going to sell the truck and now this happened. My question is should I try to do this job myself or try to go to a different mechanic to get this done. For those of you who have done it before how hard of a job is it?

I would say go for it, i have to do the same thing to my 91 22re and i was told it isn't a very hard job just take some time. I would just give it a shot with a friend that you know you can trust that has prior noledge with working on an engine. Get a chilton's Manual for the truck or Hans, either way it will help you out alot belive me.

Good Luck

go for it head gaskets are easy to do make sure you check out the head real close to check for cracks some are real obviouse and some are small and hard to see and to have the head milled by a good machine shop other than that if you have any common since you can do it
