95 Grand Am SE 2.3 Quad 4 118,000 Automatic Mis-fires doug2060 07-06-2007, 02:15 AM
I just got a Pontiac Grand Am to fix up and get around in. 1995 Grand Am SE Automatic with a 2.3 QUAD 4 engine and 118,000 miles. I got everything done but this one issue. When you give it gas it kinda hesitates and jerks lightly like when you have a hole in a spark plug wire and it arc's. Yet I can see no arc'ing. This engine doesn't use spark plug wires. I think it may be the coil housing but can't be sure. Any ideas are much appreciated.:banghead: GTP Dad 07-08-2007, 03:19 PM Misfires on these engines can be caused by a lot of things. First, if the plugs are original, which I doubt, change them. Also change the boots when you change the plugs. If that doesn't fix the issue then change the coils. finally the only other item to change would be the ignition module. If you want to save some money try salvage yard. You can get used modules for about $25 each vs. the cost of new ones. doug2060 07-09-2007, 08:29 PM Issue resolved. Paper thin original factory spark plugs replaced! Runs perfectly...
