window guides rm vs gm replacement

I am having the same problem with my drivers window and the rear passenger window, on my 95 roadmaster. I saw a part # that one of you gave for the original rm replacement part, but could not find the part # for the gm part, that one of you said would work better. I have already replaced this guide once, and it was no picnic, hard to get to. I went to the dealer and i actually bought a piece from another model that i matched up to the one i had, and had to heat it up with water, then pry it off the ball that it was on, then snap it back on to mine in the door, which i thought for sure would break it, but it held in there for a while. not sure if this is the same one yet, but it looks like it may be. So i could probably use a bag of these, since it looks like a regular job. Its been a pretty good car, and has been pretty reliable. Seems to now and then want to shift funny around 45 to 55 miles per hour, like the trans is going in and out of overdrive, but this may last a day or 2 then it works fine again, could this be something on its way out, or a dirty sensor. Thanks for the info that some of you have already given me, it helps alot.

This is the number for the rollers. DO NOT USE the sliders. They will fail again.

I recently read a thread on this, more than likely in an RM forum. Could have been at impalassforum.com. Seemed like there was a whole bunch of information, part numbers, and suggestions. I know some years ago, the dealerships did not sell individual parts. I had to buy a whole regulator assembly (expensive). But I saved the old regulator, so have 3 good rollers (or sliders?). One of these days when I have time, I will pull the right rear door and fix that one, too. Not my priority now, though.

I'll second the notion that the "hot dog" (pink oval) sliders are not the best choice for replacement. The delrin/steel rollers are a better alternative.

I was able to purchase the rollers separately at the dealership for about $6 apiece (Ouch!). P/N 9666748, Roller, Window Guide, Each - $6.14. That was March or 2005, so they may not be available any longer. You might also want to get a few door trim clips, GM P/N 10161510.

Ouch is right. I think your stealership is living up to it's name:lol: I called mine a couple weeks back to get some for a friend and his price was $4.93/ea. I paid 3 something back in the summer of 2006 for each one. Might want to call around some other dealers in your locale to see who's price is best. As I've mentione din the past, it might be a good idea to get some extra ones to keep in the glove box for future repairs as I don't know how long these items will remain in GM's inventory.Hopefully they could be produced by another company after GM discontinues them and sold aftermarket.

But remember, you are only going to buy them once. I recently had my passenger front window fixed (it was only $75 and it was about 100 degrees out in the middle of the week, so I really wasn't about to do it myself.) Seems the window had been "fixed" before with a slider (different color from factory.) The rollers will last forever.
