So mine SHATTERED, which is weird in itself. Picked up a new one at the local Pep Boys, saw the hex/allen nut, but can't get it to loosen... Do I even need to or do I use a pulley puller? If the puller is the answer, how do I get the new one on?

Thanks for the help

You got my curiosity up so I took a look under the hood. It's certainly a press on pulley so I would recommend the puller. If you look in the center of the 'hex' there are threads. Normally you would find a bolt to match the theads, put a big washer on it and run the pulley back on the shaft that way. But you would need a way keep the pump from spinning and I have no clue there. Let us know what solution you come up with.

You guys nailed it. Power Steering Pulley Puller! Cool little unit, about $26 at AutoZone. It has a two piece collar that latches onto the flange on the front of the center of the pulley tighten it up and it comes right off. The installer threads into those threads in the center of the shaft just like RBrandon said. Great thread bringselpup... thanks.

Thanks to both of you for checking in at all!!

Your welcome. I get a lot more from this forum than I give because there are a lot of good folks in here with a lot more practical experience (other than the shade tree stuff I do out of necessity in my spare time) , but it's nice to get a chance to occasionally jump at something and offer some help. I have found that most folks in the forum are friendly and helpful. Good luck with your pulley.
