Are you a true Firebird/Camaro driver??? izzydjinn 06-26-2007, 03:45 PM
Please, know the difference between the two, why do I get guys even at auto parts places when I give them my info on the car, for example....when I say firebird 3.8 blah blah blah, the ask, is that a chevy or pontiac......or vice versa, or on the street, they go, "hey nice car, is that a camaro," and im like...?????, no is a firebird. So, why is that, is it that these people are just trying to hard to fit in(the pontiac/chevy group),so hard that they dont know scrap:screwy: , or why??????? Is like calling me Mexican........wait a minute..........I am. nevermind. cardboardpimp420 06-26-2007, 05:00 PM i would hope that people on here know the difference izzydjinn 06-26-2007, 05:07 PM hope so pimp, cuz looking on other threads their asking the difference from a trans am, to trans am ws6, to a firehawk, to an SS, to a z-28, and questions like how can you tell a formula from a trans am....... come on. ZL1power69 06-26-2007, 05:24 PM most everyone here can tell the difference between those by looking at them but the questions that are asked about them are about the specific mechanical differences are between those individual models. Firebirdlad03 06-26-2007, 05:38 PM Hey you gotta consider that some of these people that are asking the questions are just trying to get more educated. So what if they dont know anything...thats why they ask the question in the first place. People that know its a firebird dont ask. They ask those questions because they dont know..but they want to know. izzydjinn 06-26-2007, 05:38 PM I agree, but still that should be easy, no.? I dont know, maybe its just me that I have the luck of talking to these kind of people that says they know about cars when they actually dont.:banghead: Firebirdlad03 06-26-2007, 05:50 PM yea if you cant tell a camaro from a firebird...and ur a "car guy", then something is wrong with you. My g/f cant tell the difference between a camaro and a firebird...she sees a camaro and says "hey that looks just like your car"..but w/e hotrod_chevyz 06-26-2007, 08:57 PM Man, its easy to tell. If its ugly its a camaro, if it looks good, firebird.:) sdsniper 06-26-2007, 10:17 PM oh god...ive had people call my car a thunderbird instead a firebird lol philly rs 06-26-2007, 10:27 PM if its ugly its a camaro..my car is sexyyyy!!!! :grinyes: :smokin: Firebirdlad03 06-26-2007, 11:24 PM Man, its easy to tell. If its ugly its a camaro, if it looks good, firebird.:) So if firebirds where never produced, camaros whould still be ugly? hotrod_chevyz 06-27-2007, 02:57 AM So if firebirds where never produced, camaros whould still be ugly? possibly. and if camaros and firebirds were never made, everybody would think we were crazy for talking about em'.. cardboardpimp420 06-27-2007, 06:48 AM Man, its easy to tell. If its ugly its a camaro, if it looks good, firebird.:) im gonna make it my life goal to find out where you live... hotrod_chevyz 06-27-2007, 08:33 AM im gonna make it my life goal to find out where you live... (edit LOL) Actually 67-69 camaros are about the best looking cars money can buy IMO. wrightz28 06-27-2007, 09:55 AM Well in all honesty, if they (those who ask by looking) are into the import I could see some of the confusion. It would be the same as half the time I have to ask, is that a Honda or Acura, albeit they are the same car (much like your point here). As for the parts guys, well, some aren't the brightest bulbs in package as we all know. However, there is some legitamicy to their question in respects to are they asking who made the motor? Kinda makes sense. OH, and for the record, :wtf: is up with that sig? korndogg 06-27-2007, 04:14 PM  (edit LOL) Actually 67-69 camaros are about the best looking cars money can buy IMO. :grinyes: 92zcamaroperson 06-28-2007, 08:07 PM refering to the original post about the guys at the autoparts store....its really hard to find a guy at the autoparts store who know jack about repairing cars much less anything about makes and models...i was redoing the drum brakes on a dodge caravan and when i went into pepboys and asked for the parts the guy just looked at me funny and had no idea. He thought they had stopped making drum brakes all together a long time ago and really didnt even know what they were or how they worked. now you have those people who just want to learn but this guy works at a parts store and wasnt even a new guy...and yet they wouldnt hire me when i applied.....drives me nuts.... giddyup50 06-28-2007, 08:29 PM You really have to watch who you talk to behind the counter at the parts stores! I called up to get radiator hoses for my Mustang and the idiot asked..."um...is that a Ford or Chevy?" I imediately asked for a manager and said..."who are you guys hirering down there?" Then I told him what the idiot said and he says..."well, he's new". I said, I don't care if he's new, everybody knows Ford makes Mustangs! Then I told him that if that's the kind of people they hire, I'm taking my business elsewhere!! This happened ten years ago. I guess they still hire IDIOTS!!! giddyup50 06-28-2007, 08:37 PM refering to the original post about the guys at the autoparts store....its really hard to find a guy at the autoparts store who know jack about repairing cars much less anything about makes and models...i was redoing the drum brakes on a dodge caravan and when i went into pepboys and asked for the parts the guy just looked at me funny and had no idea. He thought they had stopped making drum brakes all together a long time ago and really didnt even know what they were or how they worked. now you have those people who just want to learn but this guy works at a parts store and wasnt even a new guy...and yet they wouldnt hire me when i applied.....drives me nuts.... Yeah, they still use drum brakes (UNFORTUNEATELY). My wife's 03 Taurus has them on the rear. But yet the 96 and 97 Taurus's we had before had 4 wheel disc. Go figure?! I understand your frustration. Like you I'm also a gearhead who has a good knowledge of cars and how they work and when I applied at those places in the past they never called me. But yet they'll hire some dork who doesn't even know what cars Ford and Chevy make! And they wonder why people get pissed off at them. Firebirdlad03 06-28-2007, 09:42 PM well most auto parts stores, (ones around here) they are just teenagers that are just trained to look up part numbers, or match part numbers...really they dont kno jackshit. 2.2 Straight six 06-28-2007, 10:08 PM i found at my old college, that even people who were into cars didn't know jack shit. i did my entire 1-year course without help because i knew it all already. most of the class couldn't change oil. fair enough you go there to learn, but i was amazed by how little my class knew. cardboardpimp420 06-28-2007, 10:33 PM yeah ive done my share of applying at auto parts stores, ive applied for autozone 3 times now, and each time i talked to the hiring manager, i am literally never late to work or absent and last time i was in there they were short handed cause the guy who really knew nothing about cars has his second no call no show that day. Earlsfat 06-30-2007, 10:18 PM heh.. I once drove RD to Pepboys.... and some total fuckwit that worked there asked me if it was the new Mustang (before the newest model came out). I politely told him it was a camaro, he asked when they went on sale... my wife goes "about 35 years ago"... he goes "no shit? that thing looks like it's brand new?" I turned around, walked out, and haven't been back since. ikeyballz 07-01-2007, 05:48 AM haha. hey you should be proud.. your paints so shiny he thinks its new :P ive actually had good luck in hawaii with those guys.. sometimes, they mislabel the parts like radiator hoses/etc.. they go through the trouble of finding a hose that fits, if they dont have the right one (look for one the same size/shape). they're alright overall..theres this one guy there who has a 2nd gen, two 3rd, and 2 4th gen camaros.. so i just ask him.. :) Firebirdlad03 07-01-2007, 03:06 PM heh.. HAHA thats hilarious... wrightz28 07-02-2007, 08:35 AM I turned around, walked out, and haven't been back since. No no no :nono: That is the perfect opportunity to have fun and have him search around for an hour looking up the price of a thermostat for a 69 Beetle. :lol2: ikeyballz 07-02-2007, 05:54 PM lmao@wright. hey, what if he actually brings you one? 'uhh..69..looks like 96..same thing..' then youre gonna have to buy it! :p Savage Messiah 07-03-2007, 01:20 AM :grinyes: He meant 67 AND 69..... excluding 68s :grinyes: :grinyes: :grinyes: wrightz28 07-03-2007, 09:12 AM lmao@wright. hey, what if he actually brings you one? 'uhh..69..looks like 96..same thing..' then youre gonna have to buy it! :p Alright then, tell the dislexic little prick to scrounge up a set of connecting rods for a RX8 :icon16: MrPbody 07-03-2007, 01:35 PM Hey, Camaro guys... Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder... If they never built Firebird, would Camaro still be ugly? Yup... (:- Thankfully, they DID build Firebird... Too bad they rolled them in together in '82... At least the '77 T/A had a real "scoop" (I know, "non"functional) and not a sticker... (:- This is all in good fun, guys. You really shouldn't be bickering back and forth. You should get your 1st gen cars out and go beat up on Mustangs... Okay, then, 2nd gen... What? 3rd or 4th gen only? Cheviacs... and SMALL blocks, at that... Argh! Argh! Humor... Never send a boy to do a MAN'S job... Truth be known, 2nd gen F-bodies are among to best factory performance cars ever offered by anyone (mass-produced). Between the early T/As and Z/28s and the later T/As (later Camaros were woefully under-powered), 11 second 1/4 miles and 200 MPH capable should do the "trick"! The big block Camaros are beasts in a straight line. So are some of the earlier 'birds. The '69 Firebird 400 is an awesome car! (yes, I own one...) I used to have a '73 T/A. It would out-handle pretty much anything I encountered in the mid '80s. NOTE: I didn't mean the factory produced cars that would go 11s and/or 200 MPH. I meant the 2nd gen F-body is capable of supporting such performance. We have a couple out there (Firebirds) with big Pontiacs in them, that can and DO do such performance. Okay, 200 may be a little bit of a stretch... But 180 isn't! Been there, done that! I have not owned a Camaro, but I see nothing wrong with them. Just a cheaper version of Firebird. Kinda like the difference between GTO and Chevelle SS from olden times. One of our guys goes 10.40 all weekend on 93 octane, no adders and a relatively stock suspension. 461 CID. Hotrod ChevyZ, Chrysler agreed with you! Look how much the '70-'74 'Cuda and Challenger looked like the '68 Camaro... (same shape, just a little bigger) Imitation IS the most sincere form of flattery! Jim izzydjinn 07-03-2007, 09:17 PM Even with computer that tell you everything at the auto parts store, you still get them stupid questions and answers. Like I said, it is very frustating that these guys just talk out of their ass. Dont get me wrong, there are car guys out there that really know their SH*T. Firebirdlad03 07-04-2007, 01:52 AM Alright then, tell the dislexic little prick to scrounge up a set of connecting rods for a RX8 :icon16: We should seriously do that..have a hidden video camera and go in and pick a car with a rotary engine and have them try to order connecting rods..see if they fall for it..It would be very comical wrightz28 07-05-2007, 08:36 AM That is how I determine the mentallity level of a little zit face part hucker when nobody else I know is available. Even better is when you ask 'em where the bolt stretchers are. :grinyes: icelyte2004 07-08-2007, 03:29 PM Hey you gotta consider that some of these people that are asking the questions are just trying to get more educated. So what if they dont know anything...thats why they ask the question in the first place. People that know its a firebird dont ask. They ask those questions because they dont know..but they want to know. I can understand some people what educated about both cars. but all the ones that i run across always say " nice camaro you got, im like no its a trans am.....and they say same thing" sorry but anybody that owns a trans am doesnt want to be considered as bein "the same" as a camaro. Trans Am Rule!!! :D tiddy03 07-08-2007, 03:38 PM like it matters the way they look i have drove both a 2001 ss camaro and 2001 ws6 trans am same motor but the only difference is the weight of the car in a quarter mile ss camaro wins every time distance trans am wins Earlsfat 07-09-2007, 08:10 AM sorry but anybody that owns a trans am doesnt want to be considered as bein "the same" as a camaro. Trans Am Rule!!! :D And vice versa you jackass... I don't want ANYONE confusing my Maro with a Firechicken. And here's a question... Why did the older Trans Am's (smokey and the bandit 78-79) have the firechicken on the hood? I thought the firechicken was it's own model? icelyte2004 07-11-2007, 05:23 PM all makes of firebirds have a firebird logo of some sorts. Jimsfat you dink!! A Maro, LOL. pppffftttt!!! SG007 07-11-2007, 07:16 PM Firechicken  Earlsfat 07-12-2007, 07:37 AM Bwaaaaahahahahahaaaaa:eek7: :disappoin Nonono... not A maro.. a 1970 Maro that will (even pre engine rebuild and down 3 cylinders) bread and deepfry your Firechicken and toss it back at you on a paper plate. Top end, low end, middle end... one word baby... WHOOPED! (What is it with these Pontiac guys... thinking their junk drags bottom?) What movie.... "Rudy, you can kiss my a**... not on this side, not on that side... right in the middle" doug2060 07-12-2007, 11:15 PM Wow! A mexican in a firebird! You don't see that every day! Just kidding LOL! People are aparently ignorant. I had a guy yesterday point at my T-Tops and ask why the roof is made of glass... wrightz28 07-13-2007, 11:34 AM I had a guy yesterday point at my T-Tops and ask why the roof is made of glass... I think I must have had relations with his mother, I remember a blonde in the back seat saying the same thing once. :dunno: izzydjinn 07-19-2007, 02:35 PM Check it..... my girlfriend cracked the front bumper, so i bought a 95 trans am with a 98 firebird front end. everything i needed. so im turning my firebird into a trans am kinda looking car. front and rear bumper of the trans am, but i still need to look for the side skirts. izzydjinn 07-19-2007, 02:38 PM and i tell this to other people, and they say..."isnt it the same, whats the difference..." i guess they dont see it, but its frustating and im tired of explaining. twpatterson2003 08-05-2007, 12:42 PM lol its funny that I read this because Yesterday morning I was pulling into the National guard armory and this guy on a cellphone rear ended me totalled my 92 maro and when emergeny crews showed up they looked at the smashed rear end of my car they looked at me and said thats either a wrecked camaro or a new T/A of course i found no humor in this as I was mourning the death of the car that got me laid and kept me safe and by safe i mean this guy hit me going 45mph and i had no seatbelt on and come out of that with a small knot on my head from headbutting the steering wheel. everyone said im lucky to be alive but honestly w/o my camaro life isnt that great anyways.:disappoin izzydjinn 08-05-2007, 09:36 PM everyone said im lucky to be alive but honestly w/o my camaro life isnt that great anyways.:disappoin Dude, im sorry to hear your loss. wait a minute.... thats one less maro..wooohooo.... Im just kidding, well first and foremost you are OK, and since you got rear ended then its the other guys fault, and hopefully you can some how collect on his insurance (assuming that he has insurance). Good luck:2cents: twpatterson2003 08-06-2007, 08:38 AM Dude, im sorry to hear your loss. wait a minute.... thats one less maro..wooohooo.... Im just kidding, well first and foremost you are OK, and since you got rear ended then its the other guys fault, and hopefully you can some how collect on his insurance (assuming that he has insurance). Good luck:2cents: Thanks for the kind words lol and no neither of us has insurance so im getting fuqd in the arse :banghead: http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/2739/twp007hq3.th.jpg (http://img408.imageshack.us/my.php?image=twp007hq3.jpg) thats my baby that i spend countless hours and so so much money on..in hindsite tho I should have got insurance with the money i had the block rebuilt with but yeah lesson learned i guess. ZRYDERVR4 08-09-2007, 12:35 AM Man, its easy to tell. If its ugly its a camaro, if it looks good, firebird.:) haha that remainds me of my sig:lol::lol::lol: And about the part shop workers they are idiots... I went to AutoZone to buy a spark plug wire puller. so I grab them and go to pay for them so the guy rings it up and looks at and he like what’s that for... so I look at him with this kind of face:screwy::disappoin:shakehead so I tell him it is to pull the spark plug wires... and the box it was in says it in big red bold letters SPARK PULG WIRE PULLER, with a solid black background. about the rx8 thing i didn't know they use connecting rods... haah jk i think i'm going to go to Autozone and ask the guy if he can order me some for the rx8 i don't have haha:evillol::evillol::evillol::evillol: stilts07 08-09-2007, 07:33 PM Ya alot of people in arkansas is like that. They always call it a camaro. I can tell the difference from 100 feet away by the tail lights or the headlights. I dont know how people can get confused over that. Wattsyurz 08-09-2007, 08:44 PM Camaro is the original, so it's special that way. But Pontiac GTOs were the GM to have (next to vette, of course) before the Camaro. IMHO, the Pontiacs have always been a step up, the Chevy is a great car, but it's made for the masses. Never really went for the Firebirds myself, cept during the mid 70's. A big block manual trans Trans Am would be awesome. Oh, and 2 cars in a row going into the armory w/o insurance??? hotrod_chevyz 08-09-2007, 11:26 PM I went to auto zone tonight for a replacement flasher to get my firebirds blinkers working again. After not finding one on the shelf for less than $12.99 i went to the counter to see if maybe i missed the cheaper one by chance. The guy behind the counter asked if he could help me, and i handed him the bad flasher. He looked at it and said "whats this a PVC valve?" I stuck my hand out for him to give it back to me. He handed it back and i walked straight out the door without another word. This is a very common part, all older GM cars have one thats similar if not exact... I wanted to say "thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard. Not only is it PCV valve not PVC, but how in the hell can you even mistake the two?" izzydjinn 08-10-2007, 04:32 AM those guys are a pathetic excuse......of something........I got nothing.. but yeah, stuuuupid!!! 89Firebird2.8 08-11-2007, 11:30 AM I HATE people who talk on the cell phone while driving within a city. On the highway i don't mind TOO much, but in the city it pisses me off. I always pass them, glare at them, and then motion for them to hang up. wrightz28 08-13-2007, 08:28 AM I HATE people who talk on the cell phone while driving within a city. On the highway i don't mind TOO much, but in the city it pisses me off. I always pass them, glare at them, and then motion for them to hang up. :spit: now that was completely out of left field. mikeemon 05-20-2008, 10:06 PM I have a '79fb. It is always fun going to the parts store when your car is not stock and you try to get something that does not fit their little lookup doohickey. Thank god of online part lookup for some stores. Even though they still get confused sometimes when i hand them the paper and say just get me 2 of these right here!!! And of course "Is that a camaro?" Earlsfat 05-21-2008, 09:59 AM Dude you really pulled this one from the depths... did you use 50 pound test on that??? Lol.. last post was almost a year ago! On second thought, with as dead as this place has been, this thread may have only been 3rd or 4th from the top anyway, lol. mikeemon 05-21-2008, 10:25 AM I actually zoned out and didn't look too close at the date. I was searching for something else and came across this. ADD prevented me from finding what I was looking for. But I thought it was a good thread when I was reading through. wickedblack 05-28-2008, 03:29 PM Hey you gotta consider that some of these people that are asking the questions are just trying to get more educated. So what if they dont know anything...thats why they ask the question in the first place. People that know its a firebird dont ask. They ask those questions because they dont know..but they want to know. I agree, because i knew nothing about cars until my friend Iroczman taught me as much as he could. but it is irritating when people memorize #s and names (when they have no idea how it works) trying to sound cool but it makes them look desprate. KoreyM 08-06-2008, 10:20 PM I thought they were the same??? WHAT!! I have been calling mine a Chevy for the past year! Does have a Chevy motor in it... so I guess it is a little bit... To answer your question or rather statment.... people are just silly. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
