Drag racing with a stickndekens 10-31-2002, 03:21 PM Im new to the import scene and im use to draging my musclecars but they all have auto trannies. So im asking how do you get a good launch off the line with a stick? Nate:greenchai kicker1_solo 10-31-2002, 04:52 PM practice, and lots of it. Go out and get used to your car. Practice launching over and over. Rev around maybe 3,000 RPMs while you're launching. If you have too much tire spin, adjust it, if it bogs too much and you have hardly any tire spin, go a little higher. I like to launch at about 3,200 RPMs on the average. There's another guy in here that says he launches at redline, which in my car I would just sit there and spin my tires all day long. So the best thing to do is just go out and practice, see what works out best in your car. Hold the throttle at a certain point and once you let the clutch out make sure you give it more gas. RockChalk 10-31-2002, 05:51 PM Launch at redline and keep the RPM up. Seriously. Tire spin is not always a bad thing. Try launching at 3K and then 6K and compare 60' times. Also, slicks will help of course. gunnmen01 10-31-2002, 10:16 PM UUMMM tire spin is bad if your trying to race like in a 1/4 mile, or even a drag race. The only time tire spin wouldnt be bad is in a burn out contest... gunnmen01 RockChalk 11-01-2002, 01:03 AM Originally posted by gunnmen01 UUMMM tire spin is bad if your trying to race like in a 1/4 mile, or even a drag race. The only time tire spin wouldnt be bad is in a burn out contest... gunnmen01 wrong. Do you even have any drag racing experience? If you don't then you shouldn't be replying in this thread. Tire spin isn't bad if you're getting traction. And tire spin > bogging engine down. civickiller 11-01-2002, 04:10 AM yeah i read somewhere that alittle tire spin is better than straight grip off the line. but idk how accurate the site was where i read it b16a3sol 11-01-2002, 05:03 AM Tire spin isn't bad if you're getting traction. the whole point of tire spin is that you arent getting any traction. the only reason its a good thing is because you get to keep your revs up near your powerband. its an especially good thing in a awd turbo car, like the gsx or tsi. as for finding out the right balance, its all up to you. you can go to a track to find out which gives the best times, or just mess around with it while racing people. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
