My Monaro conceptDownunder 09-14-2001, 08:35 AM Now here it is.:) DVSNCYNIKL 09-14-2001, 09:59 AM Not a bad looker. What are the specs of this car? Sleepy 09-14-2001, 10:19 AM clean car the front kind of looks like a monte carlo mainly just the headlights hakka 09-14-2001, 05:06 PM maybe you should raise it just a bit...then it would look perfect. Sort of reminds me of an Alfa Romeo Montreal primera man 09-15-2001, 12:33 AM I would do anything to have one of those parked in my driveway :p :p :p Downunder 09-15-2001, 01:15 AM Well the real version same as the sedan will have an LS1 engine with around 301hp and 6 speed gearbox. The HSV version's will have 341 and 402hp cars.:) primera man 09-15-2001, 01:23 AM Is that the same motor/bhp as the Corvette ? Downunder 09-15-2001, 01:42 AM The standard corvette gets around 350hp and the Z06 has the same power as the GTS. The GTS engine is made by Callaway and they might start using the LS6 engine from the Z06 as it makes the same power and is alot cheaper. Thunda Downunda 09-15-2001, 04:09 AM Speaking of Monaro concepts, I hope you find this early styling proposal from 1966 interesting. Note the strong Pontiac Tempest influences: http://holden.itgo.com/monaro/Hkprot2.jpg hakka 09-15-2001, 01:52 PM standard vettes get 350 hp with 375 ft-lbs of torque (sorry, don't know the newton meters). The Z06 gets 405 hp and 400 ft-lbs. I wish I knew more about Holden...to bad they don't sell them here:( Downunder 09-17-2001, 05:41 AM From 2005 it's most likely going to America. As it will be a new design and be made to your design laws. Thunda Downunda 09-17-2001, 06:40 AM Sorry, but I seriously doubt if volume-export of Holden Monaro will ever go to the USA. And if low-volume, what brand would it be sold under, and to what effect? To American eyes, it resembles a current, toned-down Pontiac GTP/Buick melange. Hardly a jaw-dropper, even compared to the soon to be extinct F-body. By 2005, if Holden achieve US compliance standards, there will be a plethora of North American-manufactured GM Sigma-platform & lesser RWD models (of which the next Holden will be derived) from which to choose. With current (and future) overcapacity of production in the US, why bother? Downunder 09-17-2001, 08:20 AM This was in a news article saying that Holden is negotiating to sell the VY commodore in the UK as Omega (they are being discontinued) with potential for other European markets. They would be sold as V6 and V8. Then with the new commodore in 2005 the fuel tank will be repositioned in front of the axle (i think). And they say maybe by the end of this year they will have the protection for salt corrosion. Holden hope to sell upto 10,000 cars in the UK and Mexico which will be with VY as well. With 70,000 on exports hoped and estimated total production of 300,000 cars. Just don't ask me how they are going to make that many cars with 1 factory. Thunda Downunda 09-18-2001, 04:10 AM Excellent point, Downunder. Where is the excess production capacity? At the moment the Holden plant is groaning out about 180,000 units per annum on a triple-shift basis, and it's hard to see significantly more volume available without massive investment. The local GM-H boss Peter Hamburger (j/k) was quoted in July, stating that GM-Hs biggest danger was premature expansion, and counselling caution. Even if/when that happens, any additional output would likely be consumed by growing local and as-yet unsatisfied export demand in markets other than the US. It's a great position for Holden to be in, 'salad-days' indeed, and they must be making stacks of $$. I had heard that the new Omega will be FWD (maybe incorrect). Looking into the GM Middle East web site shows that Caprice is market lead in its segment, as is Lumina, but notably held back by lack of supply. Overcapacity in the US vs lack of production capacity in Oz. Of course, I hope I'm wrong about this! If so, I wonder if they'd be exported CKD, and under what brand? Imagine a Saturn-Holden, or a SAAB V8, even a Geo-HSV (j/k)! ps. Thanks for the info, and you're right about the fuel tank, but why would Mexicans (the real ones, not Victorians!) want to buy Holdens, instead of US (or Mexican built?) RWD Chevs etc? Downunder 09-18-2001, 06:46 AM With Mexican situation i wouldn't have a clue why but maybe because that their laws allow commodore to be sold there?. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
