Low a/c output. Not blowing hot so figure there is at least some of the old style freon in there. It worked last summer and don't remember if I checked/ran it last winter. Usually do that just to keep the juices flowing. Never had any a/c service or problems since I baught it in early 98.

The kit has the new gas, hose and gauge and what looks like just an adaptor for the fitting. It can't be that easy. Don't the rubber rings and gaskets have to be replaced, too? Does it have to be purged/emptied? Is it "filled' to a particular volume or particular pressure?

Even with the kit , it needs purged(vacum pulled) and proper amounts of oil & freon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freon) , and if anything else would need replaced too.

Then new stuff is much cheaper then the old .
Summers are mighty hot to not have it tip top!

Guess its off to the shop and let them deal with the old stuff and hope they do right for the air we breath.

That didn't last very long.
There was an iffy O-ring fitting the mechanic didn't want to tamper with and had hoped would hold up. It didn't. Carefully opened that fitting and replaced the O-ring. Turns out the metal section of the long metal and rubber hose from the compressor is in rough shape, too. The short tube from the condenser is OK.
Not sure if they did one of those dyed pressure tests.
Have had nothing but real good service from these guys for 10 + years.
Any damage to be done by driving the car with that main long hose removed?
Maybe I can wrap it or coat it or seal it with some kind of epoxy stuff.
Not sure I want to drop another c-note or two on the AC.
