emissions rediness drive cycle on '98 Blazer jbarsalou 06-19-2007, 12:10 AM
Does anyone know the specific cycle needed to get the emissions "ready" for testing on a 1998 Blazer "W". I've done this on my 02 Trans Am but wonder if the cycle is different on the Blazer. The cycle only takes about 20 minutes of driving verses hundred of miles of driving and many cold starts. I'm having trouble with the EGR and EVAP sections going to ready. Gotta love Massachusetts emissions testing! Thanks for any help in advance. Just drive it and it should take care of itself as long as there is no problems. What is the history on it? Why was the pcm cleared? Did it have any codes set before it was cleared? MT jbarsalou 06-20-2007, 12:16 AM Thanks MT. It's a '98 Blazer 2door 4x4 5 speed that I bought last year for $800 (excellent shape except engine). Engine had a knock so I finally got around to replacing it with a junkyard engine with "74k". The new engine actually runs great! I fully cleaned the intake and replaced all intake gaskets before installing engine. Old engine had DTC's so I had to clear PCM. I am in a rush for inspection because I don't want to get a ticket for the year old rejection sticker that they only allow 60 days to fix vehicle. I again performed the drive cycle and got the EVAP to be ready. Now just EGR. The book does say that it may take a couple tries. It's been about 200 miles so far. I'll just keep driving it at night until the EGR passes. Do you think there would definitely be a DTC if it can't go to ready? Thanks! MT-2500 06-20-2007, 09:45 AM Good luck. Yes a bad part or problem could keep it from running/passing the test. If it does not clear up get a scanner and run a egr valve test on it.
