1999 XJ8. The air bag light comes on sometimes, and then goes off. Any ideas what to look for? How do you diagnose the air bag on a jag?

Probably The Clock Spring. This Is Very Common On Xj8's.

How do you replace it? How involved is it? I know it's in the steering column under the wheel. Any help is appriciated. Thanks.

It is pretty east to replace. You need to remove the airbag, which I believe has two 30 tork bolts holding it from behind, then you can remove the steering wheel. You will also need to remove the steering column covers that are right behind the steering wheel. They are just held in place with a couple screws from underneath. Finally you need to remove the knee bolster below the steering column, becuase there are some wires behind there that connect to the clock spring.
