94 Olds 88 Brake short

My car is a 1994 Olds 88 with about 135K on it.

This has been a problem for a while, but it has become more prevalent recently. I'll be driving around, I'll hit my brakes, and my engine shuts off. I'm pretty sure it's a short in my brake wiring somewhere, since it happens when I hit my brakes and the speedometer usually jumps up for a split second.

I'm guessing the reason the problem has been occuring more and more is because it is getting more humid out.

This is all just my guess, I'm just wondering a few things.

A) Does this sound reasonable?

B) Has anyone had anything like this happen before?

C) Where would be a good place to start?

D) How would I go about checking?

Note: I recently had my transmission replaced, but this problem was around before then. However, after my transmission was replaced, my cruise control stopped working, and my rear defroster is on all time. Ideas on how to fix these would be helpful as well.

I've fixed some problems, but others still are present. I finally got the codes read on my car. My mechanic said it was something to do with the spark not reading right, and suggested I change my crankshaft sensor. Sounded reasonable. So, I replace my sensor, which the old one looked like one of the three bars sticking up was trimmed down for some reason. The car no longer tries to stall on slow take offs, and the check engine light didn't come on for quite awhile, but it was too good to be true. Eventually, I tap my brakes and the engine dies on me, as it had been doing. I prop it into neutral and hit the key while still coasting and it starts right up. But, within a minute, the check engine light comes on again.

Any ideas?

i was talking to a mechanic friend about break boosters and he said that sometimes if there is moisture in there your defrosters will come on for some type of safety reason. i forget exactly what he said but you might ask a mechanic about something like this? just a small suggestion. you never know with cars
