90 celica gt vs. ford focuscorefour1246 05-27-2007, 08:58 PM hey, this is my first thread. I raced my friends focus zx4 auto with cat back and CAI. We were in a parking lot (pretty stupid :screwy: ) that was just shy of maybe a 1/4 mile long with noone in it at about midnight. We lined up and i counted to 3. He held with me till about half way through 2nd and by the time i hit third i had a good CL on him. I was able to make it into 4th and surprisingly when i looked back i had a good 2 CL on him which was surprising because his has only got about 3k on it and he just had a new tranny put in and i got 197k on the clock, but my car held up and i was able to do as good as i could in a parking lot. He said he wanted another race but i told him some other time since im sure we attracted all sorts of attention being stupid in the parking lot. He also had two other people in the car, do you think this would affect the next race if its only him as far as weight goes? KamilMk 05-28-2007, 12:40 AM hey, this is my first thread. Looking at the weight difference, it probably would affect the final results, but not by leaps and bounds... And as far as HIS car goes - well, if he keeps pushing his brand new FOCUS like that, it wont last him long... The car is too young to get pushed like that, and let's not forget - it's a Ford... Good race, though. Nice win. :bigthumb: UnderEstimate Me 05-28-2007, 04:42 AM The celica isnt bad for what it is. My friend had one before he bought his m3. They are good little cars. Nice kill. AMGalltheway 05-28-2007, 09:51 PM nice but how did you get to 3 and fourth gear in less than a 1/4 mile?maybe the parking lot was longer than you thought corefour1246 05-30-2007, 05:28 PM It probably was longer than i thought. I also didn't redline it though, i shifted at about 4-5k each gear and i redline at about 6 and i didn't push too far into fourth either. Feel preety stupid about being in a parking lot though especially because its right next to a main street. Im gonna try to keep it to backstreets and the highway. AMGalltheway 05-30-2007, 09:30 PM I was just wondering how you do a 1/4 mile using 4 gears and good job using a parking lot to learn unless of course you are really a sushi deliverer in mountain roads! GForce957 05-30-2007, 10:08 PM I was well into 4th at 1/4 with my saturn -The Stig- 05-30-2007, 10:13 PM I was just wondering how you do a 1/4 mile using 4 gears and good job using a parking lot to learn unless of course you are really a sushi deliverer in mountain roads! A lot of "lower" powered vehicles on average use more gears to travel the same distance as say, a higher powered vehicle. Let's use a newer Celica GT-S, with a 6-speed manual. It may take 5 gears for it to travel the 1/4 mile. Having shorter gears to use it's high rev engines potential to make up for it's lack of low end torque. A higher powered vehicle, like a LS1 powered F-body with a 6-speed uses only 3 gears to travel the 1/4 mile. It uses it's greater torque advantage to pull itself through the gears. As the saying goes: horsepower sells... torque wins races. AMGalltheway 05-30-2007, 10:14 PM okey doke as the saying goes you learn something new every day -The Stig- 05-30-2007, 10:33 PM haha, well I hope I explained it easily enough... AMGalltheway 05-30-2007, 10:40 PM made sense to me Twizted_3KGT 05-31-2007, 09:30 AM Yep, i'm at the top of 3rd gear when I cross the 1/4 mile with my 6-speed, my buddy's SVT Focus 6-speed is at the top of 4th. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
