'96 cutlass theft deterrent mod bypasstcope 05-25-2007, 06:21 PM I have a 96 cutlass that has starting problems when it is hot in the cabin. The car will start and run for 2-3 seconds then stop (loss of fuel). I have a bypass to the key resistors in place. I believe the problem is with theft dterrent module. I found a different one at a junk yard that looks the same. Is there a way to reprogram the new on or make the new one work or bypass it total? Any help would be great 3100MPFI 05-25-2007, 10:18 PM The only way to use the new one would be if you knew the resistance of the module. I want to say that there is 6 in total. Not sure of how to get rid of it totally. Why not just use the stock key with the chip? Less chance of it messing up that way. tcope 05-25-2007, 10:22 PM I bypassed the key to eliniate that part of the security system. I am looking for a way to reprogram the Theft Deterrent Module. There must be some kind of sequence to follow.? 3100MPFI 05-25-2007, 11:49 PM nope. GM did not want it to be easy to steal your car. That is why there is 6 different modules and 6 different keys. If you have a problem with it, you either need to replace it with the same one, or put in a new one with a new key chip. I was fighting with this in my 1995 Cutlass Supreme until I realized that I had accidentally stuck my 1996 Grand Prix module in there. tcope 05-26-2007, 09:50 AM There are 15 different key resistences. So if I match the resistence programmed in the new/used TDM I should be okay, right? Does any one have any more info on this. 3100MPFI 05-26-2007, 05:53 PM That is correct. When I started swapping the the Oldsmobile Aurora dash, I decided that I am going to use my Cutlass Supreme theft module, then have an Aurora key made with the Cutlass Supreme chip. The Aurora that I got the module out of, I don't know the resistance, and instead of trying all of the resistances until I find the right one, I am just going to use what I already have. That way, the hardest part is going to be convincing the dealer to cut a key but that has the wrong chip in it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
