High Idlenavydad2005 05-25-2007, 12:08 AM My daughter went out to start her 95 DOHC SL2 and the idle shot up to 4000rpm then slowly came down to normal. When she shifted from park to reverse the idle would run high then come down to normal and the same thing from reverse to drive. It would drive normal, but when she would start to slow down, you can feel it down shifting and the rpm's would run high each time it downshifted until we would stop. Now going from stop to driving, it would drive normal. She did say that it stalled twice while driving to a friends house. Any suggestions. I've checked all the vacuum hoses and they seem to be in good shape. I tested the TPS by turning on the car and turning off when the rpms were high then turning it back on again. Still, the rpms were at 4000 and would slowly come down. yaz4real 06-01-2007, 08:07 AM It seems like the throttle body is "gunked" up especially in the passages for the idle air control next to the TPS. If you can find the time, take the throttle body off and give it a through cleaning to include with a toothbrush. Wait to you really see whats behind that throttle plate. Be careful around the IAC since it is a servo motor with spring. Do not let this part or the TPS sensor soak if you remove them from the throttle body for cleaning and be aware of the O ring when removing/ reinstalling the IAC. The throttle body gasket will not need to be replaced if it is not marred. It is the same type gasket as the one below the EGR. Your efforts will rewarded well for this maintenance in loosening some bolts, releasing the accelerator cable and unplugging some connectors and hoses. Not a hard job at all. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
