Hi, i have recently bought a 1997 escort 1.6 and have had a problem with power loss. When i reach about 70 mph it seems to loose power then a few seconds later it gains its power back again. The same happens when i accelerate in 1st and 2nd gears. I have a feeling it could have something to do with the fuel filter. Can anyone help me please. Thanks.

Welcome to Automotive Forums Could be that. Yes. I'd put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner iin a full tank of gas. Yeah. You are getting a momentary loss of fuel at that speed. I'm not acquainted with the 1.6 motor. If it has a carburator rather than injection, you could adjust the float in the fuel bowl for a richer mixture.

I had a Honda Civic that did the same thing. It would starve for fuel at higher settings. Turned out that I had used fuel mixed with alcohol and the float got "Water Logged". The alcohol permeated the plastic float. Those floats must have been made by the TItanic company.
