96 skylark tranny

When shifted to drive or reverse from park the car will try to move but just slightly and then nothing. Any ideas? Have not had it scanned yet. Thanks in advance.

If the fluid is full no noises like a broken axle, there is an internal mechanical failure.

Yah the fluid is fine and there is no noise except that of the engine. It almost feels like the brakes are stuck because the car tries to move but doesn't. It was fine the night before and when they went to move it the next day it was like this. Also it was parked on a fairly steep grade. Somebody mentioned something like a parking prawl(sp) could this be it. Thanks.

2 opposing units are applied internally when this happens. See if you can push the car in nuetral key off, if so the trans is bad.
