I want to add a factory tach.. but having probs.. help?bender2k1 05-18-2007, 11:59 PM Ok heres what I have.. I have a plain jane 5spd Escort. Its a 1993 model.. I went to the junkyard and yanked a tachometer cluster out of an lx model with a 5spd. I plugged it into my car and the tach doesnt work, and another odd thing is the alternator light illuminates when the lights are turned on (this doesnt do this with the standard cluster). So I would like to know what else do I need to add to make this thing work right. I have added tach clusters to other cars like Mazda's, Toyota's, and Hyundai's and they all have worked right.. thanks for the help in advance everyone! ****** UPDATE 11/15/07 ****** I gave up on the adding the factory tach back in May since I didnt get any real help.. until I stumbled across one key wire. Finding out about this wire resparked my interest in adding the tach. Needless to say I re-researched it and I figured it out out, on my own. Ford is a nasty automaker that wants you to not have the upgrades for some odd reason. So I installed an LX tach cluster in my plain jane Escort and now everything works as it should. I love knowing that when im cruising at 65 the engine is spinning at 2500 RPMS *goofy smile* ChillinSince12087 05-19-2007, 05:08 AM id suggest just getting an aftermarket tach if your that concerned. as for the light.. i dont remember if mine does it or not but if it dont stay lit, forget it Davescort97 05-20-2007, 02:26 PM BK/Y goes from the IP fuse box to the tach. Y/DB goes from the tach to the EDIS Elecronic distributorless ignition system. The BK/DG goes from the tach to the ground. This is wiring diagram for the tach. BK/Y goes from 15 Amp meter fuse ln passenger compartment to charge indicator. W/BK goes from the charge indicator to engine compartment fuse box then W/BK goes to the regulator side of the alternator. This is the wiring diagram for the charge light. These diagrams are for a 91. The 93 diagrams are supposed to be similar. The fuse for the tachometer and charge indicator is a 15amp fuse marked meter in the passenger fuse compartment. Other than this I can't help you out. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
