Well, remember when I said that my new car purchase was gonna start a trend of me losing alot of races? Well it's already started :lol: I'm going from the 210 freeway headed onto the 605 freeway. I see a Jetta with a coffee can exhaust on it (About 6" in diameter or more). Anyways, it sounded very loud, but didn't have a turbo whine, so i'm assuming it was a VR6 model (Deep exhaust note). Anyways, some guy with some stickers on his Acura Integra LS is behind me. I see the Jetta get on it, and decide screw it. I left the car in 5th gear, as I was already at over 4.5Krpms. This was a mistake, as the Integra was already in it's powerband. The Jetta just flat out starts walking me. I felt so powerless, whereas i'm sure my former car would've slaughtered this would be giant. The integra starts gaining on me, but then I hit past 5K rpms, and he starts to fade away. I hit over 125mph, but it's obvious I wasn't gonna catch up to the Jetta. He had a couple buslengths on me.

So basically I beat the Integra (I think I had a good 2-3 car lengths on him), and lost to the Jetta. Time to continue modding. I'm leaning towards putting in a cam later on (Crower cams makes some decent cams for the car). Wish me luck, as this car is seriously down on power.

Pick up some backissues of Sport Compact Car, the most recent ones. They just finished an MR2 Spyder build up. It beat a Lotus on the track, but at the end of the day, I think they said they'd rather have the Lotus.

I sold the WS6, as it was costing me too much money. I should update my sig, as I already have an exhaust system on my car. I have a cold air intake waiting to go in too.

I just looked up some crower cams, and asked how much they would add power wise (They said 10-12hp). I'm leaning towards them as well. I figure with the cam, intake, and exhaust i'd be looking at a good 140whp. That should move this 2150lbs. car somewhat nice. Maybe then I won't live in fear of jettas :p

The car feels peppy, until you reach about 40mph, and then it's all downhill from there. As far as handling, I really don't think it could be that much better, other then to be able to have oversteer instead of understeer in corners. This car can hit turns at 20+mph higher then the WS6 ever could. It's insane how well this little car corners.

not sure if toyota changed any internals between the 1zz in the corolla and mr2, but i wouldn't waste my money on cams, but if you must go all out NA 1zz, then get them, but I've always told myself to swap for a 2zz if i ever get a mr-s.

2zz. humm. sounds like ricer knows his toyotas. basically the 2zz has higher compression. its basically the corolla xrs/toyota matrix xrs/celica gts engine. it fits into the mr2 spyder with little modification.

the 2zz engine is nice, but rather peaky. i would drop in a 3sgte. 200hp 200tq much more useable powerband for daily driving and its turbo ^_^. 200hp in like a 2200lb car....*drools*....

I was just about to say that. The Top Secret Supra runs a 3SGTE, and shit, look at that thing move. I'm sure you can find a way to squeeze it in there.

Yeah i'd consider a 2ZZ motor, if it wasn't soo damn expensive. I mean, who in their right mind would spend $4K to have the 2ZZ dropped in their MR2 Spyder? I might as well just spend the money on a turbo and forging the internals. To me a 2ZZ would be a big waste of money, unless I could find one cheap (Doubtful).

I have a cold air intake for the car sitting in my room. I dunno when it will be installed, as i'm quite lazy about doing things. Doubtful that it will add that much power anyways. The cam would probably add the most horsepower. I figure that and a tune would put me a little over 140whp. The car weighs 2150lbs. (More with leather interior and the automatic tranny). It's pretty light, so i'd imagine with over 140whp on tap that it would be capable of a high 14 sec. 1/4 mile. Time will tell though.

Yeah, I saw that. Basically I have to take off the rear bumper. It doesn't sound like fun at all. What can you do though. Those 3 whp have to be had somehow. I gotta get prepped for a 285hp truck :p

Sport Compact Car did a test on the MR2 a while back they installed an Injen SRI, TRD exhaust and a grounding kit i believe. I forgot the exact gains but they were pretty descent. I know TRD makes a supercharger for the 1zz corolla...i dont know if that will fit on the MR2.

Man drop the motor from the celica gt-four, the ST205, 242 bhp and the swap has been done plenty of times in mr2's. just something to think about...:grinyes:
