Same problems

I have had many of the same problems as many of you. The cluster, temp display, brake booster, 2nd gear tryng to stick and now the A/C compressor making a loud grinding noise. I know it's time to replace it, because the bearings are shot. I even had the plugs and wires changed. Hasn't run right since. However in all of this, we have tried to run some codes as well and can't. The guy I bought my 95 from said he had put a new computer in it and it cost $800, but when it the cluster started going out he called the dealer and he said it only had a 90 warranty.
I paid $3k for the car...it now has 127K on it. I am not a mechanic, so it is frustrating to have to fork over the money to do what needs to be done.
Is there a way, to fix the compressor without spending $400 to get it fixed? They can't bypass it, without bypassing the alternator and power steering pump. That is based on a diagram from a dealer. Is there any way to rebuild it?

The cheapest fix is to locate you a used compressor locally at a salvage yard or ebay. Probably be able to find one for about 50 dollars. Once you locate one, call around & see what the shops want to remove & replace it. That will fix the grinding noise problem. Later you can decide whether you want to keep it & finish the ac repair (replace dryer, orfice tube, flush system, vacuum down & add freon). About a 800 - 1500 dollar repair bill at the shops using a new/rebuilt compressor & all the other items needed for the change out. My recommendation would be to get rid of the car asap. Auroras will eat your walet, are a maintenance nightmare, & one of the worst for depreciation. You will find all the car problems will go away by getting you a Honda/Acura/Lexus. Best of the best for holding their value, minimum maintenance & will get you from A to B without check engine lights, etc......

Well it died. I tried to start it yesterday, and it wouldn't start. Apparently the clutch and pulley finally died out, and so the car won't start. I have checked and I can get a salvage for $100, but a rebuilt is 200. Orphis is 3 and the Accumilator is 30. About $100 for labor, then oil, etc. About a $400-500 job, but now I'll have a tow bill, and just hope nothing else is wrong.
I love the car, and want to keep it, if I can afford to. I've had it for a year. I think the problem is that the car set up for a while before I bought it.
Can the clutch and bearings be replaced in it and it work or will the whole A/C compressor have to be replaced?

I believe you can bypass the compressor by using a shorter belt. think I saw a how to on Aurora club site. I can tell from your commments you are not a mechanic. This is not the car for you. Even the best classic Auroras have a new mechanical issue every week. Most can be fixed by mechanical person with determination however, if you don't have tools and lots of know how and lot of determination, this car will run you into the poor house. Most mechanics don't know how to fix them and therefore when you take it for repair you pay for the job as well as his learning time and mistakes. This is a great car for a do it yourselfer, bad car for the mechanically disinclined.

all cars have ac issues eventually. compressor do not live forever. I would not buy a used compressor as there is no guarantee that that compressor will surive for any time (it could be dead when you put it on).

I dont like rebuilt compressors either because the rebuild places sometimes just slap new seals on it and paint it. You never know how worn the cylinders are.

What I did was learn all I could about ac systems and now I can fix them myself. I didnt like that $900 bill from the garage to fix the ac in my buick. but I paid it (btw, they used a rebuilt compressor and its still working 75000 miles later)

I had to replace the compressor and buy and new one, plus accumalator and orphis. Total cost was $560.
Now it is in the shop....Instrument Cluster. Trans sticks and releases in 2nd too; mostly when driving slow. I think that is mostly with the computer and cluster. I doesn't give any codes. Also replacing pressure hose on PS pump. Once the cluster went out, all of these problems started. So we'll see what happens.

instrument cluster is a junk yard item for 1995 roras. I have bought two for underf $50.00 each. You may have to try several since all of them are having problems. Your shifiting problem sounds like solinoids, there are lots of fixits on forum for this problem. Parts are about 50.00 and labor should be 2 hours.
