A friend of my son has offered to give me a 1994 Saturn SC1 5 speed to get it out of his yard, he's tired of working on it. I want to know if it's worth fixing or should I sell it to the junk dealer. I don't know anything about Saturns but here's the background he gave me. Car has 94k miles on it, a few months ago he let it run low on oil due to leaking rear main seal and some sort of plastic guide in the top of the motor melted on the sprocket of the cam. He removed the sprocket, replaced the guide and when replacing the sprocket broke a tooth or something and had it welded back on. However something is out of alignment and the sprocket/chain is rubbing on the valve cover. He is about to be deployed and doesn't have time or inclination to fool with it anymore and just wants to be rid of it. How much trouble would it be to replace the cam sprocket and timing chain also what's involved in putting in a new rear main seal? The rest of the car is ok except the fan inside doesn't work and its got a few minor injuries (dents and busted headlight). Thanks for your input.

the only thing i can think of that you are talking about is the timing gears. buy a kit from the nearest dealer. it comes with new cam gears, crank gear, chain, tensioner, guides, and all. it's simple to time. need help. e-mail me.
