Cheap way out (rear end)

I have an 86 toyota pickup 2wd. I have welded the spider gears on GM axles before for drag racing. Has anyone ever welded a standard rear end up to make it solid drive? I know this is the cheap way out, but I don't have hardly anything in the truck and am in the 9's with the 4 cyclinder in the 8th. I have made my own header and polished and ported the head to match the intake and header. It doesn't have any pollution stuff on it and will idle at 650 rpm and hit 6500 with no problem. Its a fun truck to play with, I just don't waant to invest in another read end since I'm building an 86 1/2 Supra also.
