This just in!! A plane crashed into the World Trade Center!!! I'll bring more news as it becomes available.

It was two aircraft that crashed into the two towers. All Airports around the Tri-state area(New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) have been suspended. The two aircraft were highjacked prior to the accidents as per FBI. A 737 and a DC-9/10 crashed into each tower.

WTF ????...Just watching it on CNN now....someone's gonna pay for this:mad: :mad: :mad:

It's now being reported that a bomb exploded or another plane has crashed into the Pentagon.

We live in a sick world. People taking their own lives for what. They

They have now suspended flights leaving EVERY airport in the country. there is also a reported fire in the washington Mall. the south Tower of the world trade center has now collapsed, but they don't know if it is from bombs or if it was just the weight of the top of the building crumbling down from the fires.
To me this is just sick, two commercial planes with hundreds of people go barreling into the World Trade Center, it makes me ill to think of how many people died in that attack. you know i'll be watching all day to get more info:(

I turned on the TV this morning while I ate my breakfast. This was just after the second plane hit. The video didn't even look real! Even watching the footage of the second plane hit the south tower it still looked like a cheezy movie. Damn this is unbelievable.

Planes are being routed to Canada and here in Toronto the CN tower and other officer towers are being closed. They say out of respect to the happenings down south.

This just makes me sick! Now it sounds like planes are crashing all over the place. At this point there is nothing you can do to whoever is responsible to repay for this.

CANADA has also gone into a state of alert, all our airports and boarders have been shutdown aswell, since we're basically the same country as the U.S. I just drove to New York a couple weeks ago 8 hour drive!

I think the attack was by Osama bin Laden, and no wthey will have to get him. He is super-rich, and hates americans, and if the worst terrorist threat.

All we can do is hope deaths are as little as possible, and pray for the peole who died.

On CNN they were just talkin about that.... they said they don't think it would be Bin Laden because this is too much of a complex terrorist attack, they don't think he'd be capable of somethin like this

I don't think that the plane went down in a heavily populated area, thats just what i heard. i honeslty think this is going to escalate to WW3, just yesterday i got a call from the marines and they wanted to ask me some questions, i am going down there at 5 to interview with them but my mom won't let me sign anything now, i'm only 16. for all the palestinians that are rejoicing now, i personally believe that an eternity in Hell is blessing for what should happen to them, especially for the heartless terrorists. one of my teachers said that we shouldn't be 100% sure that the palestinians or muslims did it because when the bombing in oklahoma city occured, they were pointing their fingers at them, but it turned out it was one of our own people. i hope and pray that an american wouldn't do this to his own people.

So far it hasn't really sunk in or anything, it's wierd. The only thing I can't get over is that the twin towers are gone. I was listening to some building specialist talk on the radio. He said the WTC was actually designed to withstand a collison with a aircraft. He then said that when the buildings were designed, the aircraft back then were much smaller.

Did you hear the survivor that was on the TV this morning? He said that when the windows shattered everything was being sucked out, his desk flew out the window, and he had to hold on to a door to keep from being sucked out himself. Maybe that's what was going on with the people "jumping" from the building....

wasn't the boeing 747 built before or around 1970.... that's the biggest commercial plane, and that's when the WTC was built

it did somewhat withstand the collison, but then the fire and stuff took it out.... i'm pretty sure the person meant small plains though

Hm...just on the little headlines thing at the bottom of CNN it said "New Brunswick Premier safe in NYC"...I didn't know he was there...

Heard it was meant to withstand a 707 plane off CNN earlier today.

The 747 is almost twice the size of that! My History teacher said it was a 767, an the Video I saw was of a Twin-Engined 767 colliding with the North Tower.

BTW, Heep as for WW2, it was going on for almost a year I think, What happened was the Germans were building up lots and lots of Force in the 1930's (Hitler took them out of the Depression) and then German broke the Treaty of Versailles and slowly started to cliam back thier old land and new land that had been taken after WW1. Then in 1939, they went to far and invaded Poland, Britain (I think) jumped in and declared War on Germany, The invasion of Poland as you may have heard was called Blitzkrieg. For about a year Germany sat there invading nothing, Killing few people and was slowly building its war machine. This time was cleverly dubbed "Sitzkrieg" and then I think Germany goes through Belgium (Or at least tries to) and then the war is on.

So in the end, unless Bush says the Term "War" in his address, we could be sitting here a while just totally POed at Osama Bin Laden.

yeah i turned it on cbs for awhile to check out the canadian people talkin about it and they were talkin with the Premier of New Brunswick on the phone from new york. He was there for a meeting or somethin, and he said he was in the meeting when somebody ran in telling them that a plane hit the Trade Center. He ran out and saw the rest of it from a distance of about 50 blocks away

he can't leave the country either, so he has to stay in NYC

I met that guy (sort of...). He was at my graduation.

I just got back from the Marine recruiting station and they said that without a doubt they are going to take action and are getting ready to move. and the marriot hotel that is in the vacinity of the attack is on the verge of collapsing.

That's what I heard too, It just talks right now, I'm going to watch the Address being made by the President as everyone should. I'm betting the Marriott will go down.

i am shocked, simply put. my principal came into our class in first period and told us about it. i thought it was a small bomb, when i went to my homeroom the TV was on and the WTC towers were smoking like crazy i was suprised. my teacher was crying, and a couple of my friends were making some jokes about what should happen to the terrorists and i wanted to tell them to shutup.
I just got back from the Marine recruiting station and they said that without a doubt they are going to take action and are getting ready to move.

Hey, I haven't read all the above postings (it's late and that's A LOT of reading), but while I was lucky enough not to have lost any friends or family down in NYC today, I know there are lots who have lost friends and relatives. I offer my prayers and best wishes to all those individuals.

4) I missed Bush's speach and am glad I voted for the right guy after listening to what you all said he said. He is doing exactly the right thing, and I applaud him for it. My prayers also go out to him as he must make some very very difficult decisions very soon.
5) I have never seen NYC with my own eyes, but even though the 2 wtc buildings are down, the statue of liberty still stands proud. America WILL weather this attack, and those responsible will be brought to a fitting end IF Bush does make the right decisions. When you pray for all the people affected by this tradgedy, say a special prayer for Bush, that he make the right choice, the best choice.

20 August 1998 TEXT: U.S. GOVERNMENT FACTSHEET ON USAMA BIN LADIN (Saudi advocates destruction of United States) (860) (The following U.S. government factsheet was distributed by the Defense Department August 20, 1998.) Usama Bin Ladin was born around 1955 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He is the youngest son of Muhammad Bin Ladin, a wealthy Saudi of Yemeni origin and founder of the Bin Ladin Group, a construction firm heavily involved with Saudi Government contracts. Usama Bin Ladin left Saudi Arabia to fight against the Soviets in Afghanistan in 1979. In the mid-1980s he co-founded the Maktab al-Khidamat (MAK) or Services Office, to help funnel fighters and money to the Afghan resistance in Peshawar with a Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood member named 'Abdallah 'Azzam. The MAK ultimately established recruitment centers around the world -- including in the U.S., Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan -- that enlisted, sheltered, and transported thousands of individuals from over 50 countries to Afghanistan to fight the Soviets. It also organized and funded paramilitary training camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Bin Ladin imported heavy equipment to cut roads and tunnels and to build hospitals and storage depots in Afghanistan.

Bin Ladin split from 'Azzam in the late 1980s to extend his campaign to all corners of the globe: 'Azzam remained focused only on support to Muslims waging military campaigns. Bin Ladin formed a new organization in 1988 called al-Qa'ida -- the military "base." After 'Azzam was killed by a car bomb in late 1989, the MAK split, with the extremist faction joining Bin Ladin's organization.

Bin Ladin returned to work in his family's Jeddah-based construction business after the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan in 1989, but he continued his organization to support opposition movements in Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

Bin Ladin's anti-government activities prompted the Saudi government to expel him in 1991, after which he relocated to Sudan. Although the Afghan war had ended, al-Qa'ida has remained a formidable organization consisting of mujahedin of many nationalities who had previously fought with Bin Ladin. Many of these have remained loyal to and continue working with him today.

In May 1996, Sudan expelled Bin Ladin, largely in response to U.S. insistence and to the threat of UN sanctions following Sudan's alleged complicity in the attempted assassination of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Ethiopia in 1995. Within a month, Bin Ladin took refuge in Afghanistan, where his support for and participation in Islamic extremist activities continued.

Bin Ladin's Organization

Al-Qa'ida's goal, in Bin Ladin's words, is to "unite all Muslims and to establish a government which follows the rule of the Caliphs." Bin Ladin has stated that the only way to establish the Caliphate is by force. Al-Qa'ida's goal, therefore, is to overthrow nearly all Muslim governments, which Bin Ladin views as "corrupt," to drive Western influence from those countries, and eventually to abolish state boundaries.

Al-Qa'ida is multi-national, with members from numerous countries and with a worldwide presence. Senior leaders in the organization are also senior leaders in other terrorist organizations, including those designated by the Department of State as foreign terrorist organizations, such as the Egyptian al-Gama'at al-Islamiyya and the Egyptian al-Jihad. Al-Qa'ida seeks a global radicalization of existing Islamic groups and the creation of radical Islamic groups where none exist.

Al-Qa'ida supports Muslim fighters in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Chechnya, Tajikistan, Somalia, Yemen, and now Kosovo. It also trains members of terrorist organizations from such diverse countries as the Philippines, Algeria, and Eritrea.

REPORTER: Mr. Bin Ladin, you've declared a jihad against the United States. Can you tell us why? And is the jihad directed against the US government or the United States' troops in Arabia? What about US civilians in Arabia or the people of the United States?
BIN LADIN: We declared jihad against the US government, because the US government is unjust, criminal and tyrannical. It has committed acts that are extremely unjust, hideous and criminal whether directly or through its support of the Israeli occupation of the Prophet's Night Travel Land (Palestine). And we believe the US is directly responsible for those who were killed in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq. The mention of the US reminds us before everything else of those innocent children who were dismembered, their heads and arms cut off in the recent explosion that took place in Qana (in Lebanon). This US government abandoned even humanitarian feelings by these hideous crimes. It transgressed all bounds and behaved in a way not witnessed before by any power or any imperialist power in the world. Good morning everyone. I would like to first say that I am okay and my family is okay also. I haven't heard from them till 7pm. I would also like to express my condolensces to the families of victims of this horrific tragedy. My family was right there next to the twin towers and saw everything unfold. People were running and screaming all over the place. I still can't get over the fact that this has happened. I believe everyone is now aware that 3 buildings of the World Trade Center or no more.

I also want to thank all those that expressed concern for me and to let you know that I appreciate it.

This morning, they said at the pentagon 800 are dead. That wing would normally have 4000 people in it, so it is 'lucky' (How can I say that:( ??)

At the WTC, lots are dead, I guess 25000 people.

Heres another rumour, I dont know if its true: Right now (12 noon), there are 3 jets off Vancouver, BC (north of Seattle) that have vered off their flight path and are not responding.
I sincerely hope this is untrue, as that would just be horrible.

I also heard this morning that they raided a house of two of the passengers on one of the planes, and he had been a pilot once and had a flight manual at his home.
Also, a man on the plane that crashed in Pensylvania called his wife, saying they were hijacked, but 3 of them were going to do something about it.


Whoever is responsible will pay, but lets not jump to conclusions until we know. Most stuff is still speculation.

Reports of three suspicious aircraft over Canada were checked out by Canadian authorities and found to be untrue, according to U.S. officials. Concern about the matter was prompted by a Canadian pilot who reported -- erroneously as it turned out -- that he was being followed by three other aircraft.

Structural Engineers Offer Insight On World Trade Center Collapse

September 11, 2001

According to one of the designers of the World Trade Center (WTC), the towers were originally designed to take the impact of a Boeing 707; and the impact of the aircraft this morning did not take the buildings down. In fact, WTC One stood for 1 hour and WTC Two stood for 1 3/4 hours after impact. Engineers familiar with the chain of events suspect that heat from the massive and extraordinary fires weakened the structures and initiated the progressive collapses.

John Hooper, a structural engineer from Skilling, Ward, Magnusson, Barkshire, the structural engineering firm that evolved from Skilling, Helle, Christianson, Robertson, which was the structural engineering firm of record for the WTC, provided the following facts to NCSEA: WTC One was 1368’ tall, and WTC Two was 1362’ tall. Each 110-story tower had a floor plate that was 208’ by 208’. The central core of each was 86’ square. Around the perimeter of the buildings, columns were spaced at 3’-3” on center, with 48”- deep plate girders at each floor. At the third level, the columns transitioned in an arch-like formation to a 10’-0” spacing for the lower story. Floors were supported by steel trusses spanning 60’, from the core to the perimeter wall, on each side of the building. The buildings are also thought to have been the first buildings to use non-asbestos fireproofing. The fibers of the spray-on fireproofing product were reportedly ceramic rather than asbestos.

NCSEA has contacted FEMA and will coordinate and make available structural engineers in the New York and Washington D.C. areas. NCSEA will also coordinate and provide the services of Member Structural Engineering Associations throughout the U.S., as needed.

The National Council of Structural Engineers Associations is extremely saddened with the day’s news, including the collapse of the World Trade Center in New York City. Our hearts and prayers go out to all the victims and their families.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth.

Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the mericans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."

I'm not near there anymore. I was told to leave the area. I was there when the second building collapsed. It was not a very good sight. I'm still overwhelmed and in shock. I don't even want to talk about it. But needless to say, it was very chaotic in the area. My father is fine. My future sister-in-law and the baby are fine also. Thanks.

I kinda want to say something comferting, but its impossible for me to have any idea of what it must have been like to even be on Manhatten island, let alone close to the towers. The best I can think of is: Go be with your family, be strong, dont ever forget, but dont ever let it haunt you.

I think they are still standing but there have got everyone out as they fear it will fall.
