Place your bets. Matt and I have already talked about it. He'll be running me in his 285hp Silverado versus my 138hp MR2 Spyder. If you just look at the horsepower numbers, he should obviously win, but he's hauling 2000lbs. more vehicle then I am. He's also got an automatic, versus my manual tranny.

I think i'm gonna win, he thinks he's gonna win. Who do you guys think is gonna win?

I'd put my money on Matt. Those trucks can be decently quick when they want to be

Would Stig be down for Autocross? :)

-The Stig-
05-10-2007, 12:34 AM
I would if I didn't have to pick up all the cones I'd smash down with the truck...

MRS's are low 15 second cars bone stock. lets hope that truck is faster than a stock nissan titan to beat it.

-The Stig-
05-10-2007, 01:37 AM
Nah, it's not faster than a stock Titan. Well, never tried but I don't need to to know.

I've got my work cut out for me it seems...

No Matt, focus on the horsepower deficit. These MR2's are slow ass pieces of shit. Just ask the guys from the other board I belong to :p

I'm actually thinking about modding it already. Found a place that will sell a catback exhaust for $260, and an intake for $60. That's not too bad for some additional ponies.

The MR2 will win. Those trucks have some very tall gearing while the MR2 has some really short gears. That and the weight advantage will more than make up for the difference in hp and torque.

I choose you MR2! **Throws a Pokeball**

HAHA!

Sorry Matt.

What year is the truck? Is it extended cab? short bed?

-Josh-
05-10-2007, 12:28 PM
No need to over analyze this race people...besides we all know lil matty doesn't have cajones to race the truck..

CivRacer95

I've got 20 bucks saying that the race never happens...

I say you guys should empty your gas tanks till about 1/4 is left and race to see who runs out of gas first! lol!

Matt wanted to hype it up. I'm sure it will happen. Should be interesting to see what happens.

very original, I personally like the one that goes, "would you like some cheese with that wine".

Truck is a 2001 Silverado Extended cab, short bed. 5.3L L33 truck engine making 285hp, with 325ft-lbs torque, 4-speed automatic... weighin in at roughly 4400-4500lbs.

0-60 in roughly 11 minutes. By far the best truck ever.

Only thing I've got going for me is that I've got an automatic making the launch easy, and consistent shifting. Bobby being new to the car, I'm hoping on driver error and he'll botch the launch and/or miss a shift.

It's all for fun either way. It'll be fun to see what'll come out... they're complete opposites of each other in every way. One has a grunty engine, but has weight to haul around, the other is underpowered but weighs next to nothing.

I'll bring my Gtech pro, we'll Gtech the MR-S while we do it.

20 bucks more says the Gtech says the Truck is faster than the MR

-The Stig-
05-10-2007, 11:05 PM
hahah doubtful... I Gteched it once with a halfassed launch with a full tank of fuel it was like 16.9 or something crazy. I think with 1/4 or less load of fuel and an actual launch I can shave maybe .5 off.

Optimistic yes... but it really was a bad attempt at trying to set any records. Not to mention it's a hard thing to try and test with the Gtech, hard to find a place where you've got a full 1/4 mile to run the car up to full speed, plus room to slow down... without the threat of police.

I race a silverado when my saturn worked, beat it, so i am pretty confident the toyota can pull off the W.

I have a Gtech and the 1/4 times are fairly good on, but the 0-60 is way off. Anyone know if that is input error or the thing just doesnt record it that well

Car and Driver actually pulled off a 0-60 9min and 27 seconds. Must have been a well-prepped track....

^^^ now that going nowhere in a hurry....

Truck - 4235lbs - 285/325 = 14.85 lbs per hp

MRS - 2195 - 138/125 = 15.90 lbs per hp

very close.. truck is like a wall going tdown the road and the MR-2 is more aerodynamic.

The truck is an automatic and the car is manual. I'm going to say neck and neck the whole way through on a straight away with the auto FTW. I think the shifting gears in the MR-2 will be the dif...

Good gawd...nearly 3 pages of this...

Didn't think much debating would happen here because it's a high 16 sec. auto-truck versus a low 15 sec. manual-car....

Hrm...so technically if you were banned for, let's say a week, it wouldn't make a difference??

It's the best damn race this site has seen in a while, give us a break... we've all be out of practice so we're just starting a bit slower to get our feet wet again.

Get your side bets ready folks! hahah.

I'd probably just go ahead and slit my wrist if i got banned for a week so it wouldnt make any diff., but I would rather NOT get banned for any length of time.

If you must ban me though would the week be a full 7 days or a standard 5 day work week.:)

-The Stig-

I'd make it 8 days just to piss you off.

So how are you guys getting 4200 and 4600 lbs for the truck???? Because mine (2006 Sierra Crew Cab) weighs 5240 lbs.

And just for information purposes, MT got 15.8 out of an 07 Ex-Cab Z-71 with the 5.3 (315 hp/338 lbs-tq) and 15.4 out of an 07 Crew Cab Z-71 with the 6.0 (367 hp/375 lbs-tq).

So 4-cylinder cars beware of new Silverados with "VortecMax" on the doors, lol.

-The Stig-
05-12-2007, 12:22 AM
Your truck has the 4-full doors. I've just got the extended cab with the mini suicide doors.

And I'm getting the weight from Edmunds.com.

Don't forget my truck has a bit less power than yours with it's 285hp. You've got the newer better more badass 5.3L than I do.

I'm wondering if I should hold off on installing the cold air intake and catback exhaust. I wouldn't wanna lie about what I got under the hood (Might just throw a one hundred grand bar underneathe there for F&F purposes).

05-12-2007, 05:25 PM
^^^there is some guy in my super street magazine from awhile back, that but a k20a in a mr2. thing ran 12s with just basic boltons like intake, headers, custom catback.

chevytrucks92
05-12-2007, 10:18 PM
Is your truck just a 2WD?? Because that would make the difference I bet.

I just dont think the full size back doors would make mine 6-8 hundred pounds heavier, lol.

-The Stig-
05-12-2007, 10:20 PM
Yeah, I'm 2wd only.
