Painting a fiberglass body kit......yhandor 05-09-2007, 12:38 AM Hey all, my friend, also has a cavalier, 95, 2 door. and his body kit came today! Horrah it's not too bad! But he wants to paint it himself, and I am willing to help him, to gain experience. It came gel coated, in an Aqua greenish Blue colour from Hyperformance, also the side skirts fit but no hardware or tabs o ntehskirts to mount them to the car, how do you do it???? Can we jsut buy Primer, Duplicolour paint and clearcoat and that will do it fine??? We are both new at this, he does not want to pay a painter $500 to paint it, would rather do himself, thanks in advance, I know one fo you will have a good insight on this! DeadBlade89 05-09-2007, 09:28 AM you need a paint gun, primer, base coat, and clearcoat. make sure u get the same base coat as his car though. Classicrocjunkie 05-09-2007, 10:38 AM side skirts are double sided 3m tape and screws if you can get em flush on the rocker pannel, then screws to hold to the inner fender and same for the 1/4 pannel. yhandor 05-09-2007, 01:43 PM these sides are different ill get pictures when i can. Chris9904 06-01-2007, 11:59 PM you need a paint gun, primer, base coat, and clearcoat but make sure it u use the same clear coat an also if you want it too look even better just mold the kit into the car.:) Chris9904 06-02-2007, 12:04 AM Ah an also about how to get the kit to fit well actully the kit should have came with little brackets that clip onto the kit an then you drill an dont see do reason the kit didn't come with them.Go to site hoursepowerfreaks.com an see if they have anything if not there then go to racingsummit.com. Lefix 06-03-2007, 02:57 AM Bodykits usually dont come with any screw holes, which means you have to drill holes on the bodykit according to where your stock screws are, i was 16 and i did the whole bodykit all by myself, i am so proud of myself... :D and i would have a professional painter paint the bodykit so it will match the car's color, cuz if you do it yourself, most likely that the color will be WAY off... DeadBlade89 06-03-2007, 12:56 PM and i would have a professional painter paint the bodykit so it will match the car's color, cuz if you do it yourself, most likely that the color will be WAY off... no, the only way it would be off is if the paint is fading. it wont be off if you order the right paint w/ the stock paint # on your car. I believe the #s in the trunk. Lances133 06-03-2007, 01:07 PM ...under the spare tire cover DeadBlade89 06-03-2007, 11:03 PM ...under the spare tire cover thank you lance :) i knew it was in the trunk, but forgot where exactly. yhandor 06-03-2007, 11:05 PM well aint that nice, hes got amp subs, tons of clutter in the trunk, where exactly is it, just flip the cover upside down on there? DeadBlade89 06-03-2007, 11:07 PM well aint that nice, hes got amp subs, tons of clutter in the trunk, where exactly is it, just flip the cover upside down on there? ya, just take the cover off (if you can w/ all the stuff ontop of it) and it should be on the underside of the cover. Nexagen 06-05-2007, 08:40 PM Yhandor how much does your fiberglass body kit weight in comparison to stock? yhandor 06-05-2007, 08:52 PM It's not mine, its a close friends, and I think the fiberglass is heavier than stock..i think Classicrocjunkie 06-06-2007, 01:39 PM $500 to paint his car professionally? Where's that, Maaco? Tell him my bill and see what a professional job really costs. $3,500-4,000 to re-paint a whole vehicle a stock color. 1991tercel 06-06-2007, 02:41 PM $500 was the cost to get the body kit painted vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
