Getting to the gaugesJCheff62 05-06-2007, 07:29 PM Is there an easy way to get to the gauges on a 99 alero without just breaking the cover? I disconnected and reconnected the battery a couple days ago and somehow the gas gauge needle jumped the peg at the full mark. :screwy: It is nice looking down and always seeing a full tank of gas but we all now how that's going to turn out. :disappoin vamc 05-06-2007, 09:08 PM You need to remove the black cover first(2 screws),next, there are 4 screws to take it off. Thats what was on my 99 alero. JCheff62 05-07-2007, 08:17 AM That sounds easy enough, I'll have to give it a try. Thanks mechtech1 05-10-2007, 08:57 PM I had this very same thing happen on my '99 Alero V6. The needle had to have spun clear around counterclockwise to be laying on -top- of the full peg the way it is. I had also just installed a new battery when this happened. The old Delco battery was not bad or discharged, it was just leaking around the positive post, causing corrosion to the positive terminal. I have not yet done anything to correct the fuel guage problem due to general laziness, but if it is any consolation, my low fuel light and warning chime still come on as the tank nears empty.
