Went and did a little car shopping today...CivRacer95 05-01-2007, 10:11 AM Here's what I was mostly interested in. Apologies in advance for the quality in the pictures. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e70/Chrisjion/skyline3.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e70/Chrisjion/skyline1.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e70/Chrisjion/skyline5.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e70/Chrisjion/skyline2.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e70/Chrisjion/skyline4.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e70/Chrisjion/skyline6.jpg I saw a few RX-7's, waiting to see an FTO (not for me though), but was mostly interested in the Skylines. They are GT-R's (twin turbo AWD). They are asking for a very generous price, and to me it's plenty worth it. Best of all, I'm going to keep the Eclipse too. The place where we found them, JGM, is a company we'd like to do future business with. I spoke with the owner, and he told me weekly they bring in parts (not aftermarket) so if anything needs replacing, just give them a call, and they'll have it here in just a few short weeks. That right there was a bonus to me. And, if I do wish to purchase aftermarket parts, they have a few sources that they deal with to help out. So, I'm in deep consideration of purchasing one by mid to the end of summer. I hope anyway. I'd love to own one. I've wanted to own one. So...hopefully, I will own one. Say what you may want to say now, but I just wanted to show you guys what I'm searching for. I'm not gauranteeing anything, but it's a very good possibility. Well, all comments are welcomed. :) Gotian 05-01-2007, 11:13 AM lucky ass, you cant find any for sale here in miami, much less most of the US due to the emmission laws. I'm sure there are plenty of skylines, FC's and FD's in perfect working order over there right? -Jayson- 05-01-2007, 11:29 AM mmmm Twin turbo all wheel drive, GET IT NOW DAMN IT! CivRacer95 05-01-2007, 11:52 AM lucky ass, you cant find any for sale here in miami, much less most of the US due to the emmission laws. I'm sure there are plenty of skylines, FC's and FD's in perfect working order over there right? There surely are!! I was like a kid in a candy store when I was up there picking up an SR20 for a customer. It was basically like being in a shop all by yourself with everything at your disposal. But when you dig in your pockets, and pull out $20, you realize it's just going to have to wait a little while longer. But, I chatted with a few of the guys that worked there, and they consistently get skylines, FD's, and what not every few weeks. If those skylines aren't there in a few days, there will be more there in just a few weeks. So, I won't be disappointed if they sell the two I posted. CassiesMan 05-01-2007, 02:20 PM Nice. I'd rather the FD, but thats just me. Looks pretty good though. -Josh- 05-01-2007, 02:33 PM Get one now you gutless native wimp! CivRacer95 05-01-2007, 05:01 PM Get one now you gutless native wimp! I'd love to if I weren't pumping up the Eclipse to 350 whp. Currently the Eclipse is going through some changes, cosmetically, and soon enough, internally...so, it's just a matter of getting that out of the way. Like I said, it'll be a while before I can, and I'm in deep "consideration" on whether I should buy it (or one). Just a matter of time to determine that choice. I'm trying to talk to the guys to give me a test drive in their R33 just for shits and giggles. But, next time I go there, I'm going to ask for a test drive in one of those GT-R's, and get some footage (I hope). youngvr4 05-01-2007, 05:08 PM thats a R-32 right? nice, i like it...it be nice to hear some of your racing stories if you do get such a monster youngvr4 05-01-2007, 05:09 PM mmmm Twin turbo all wheel drive, GET IT NOW DAMN IT! i already got it :smokin: Gotian 05-01-2007, 05:32 PM How much do those cars go for up there? Next stop "America Jr!" Oh BTW Do they ever get a Celica GT-FOUR with the ST205 motor in it? If they do I am so there! One of my favorite cars. RACER D12 05-01-2007, 10:06 PM Wait civ where do you live? TatII 05-01-2007, 11:36 PM its amazing how ugly the GTR's look in photos. i'm sure civracer95 can attest to how nice they look in person. yeah if would be very very if you can get a R32 GTR. hey mid to low 12's on stock turbos with bolt ons is awesome in my books. do you live in canada now? i mean why are there soo many skylines there? Musashi3000GT 05-02-2007, 12:50 AM lucky ass, you cant find any for sale here in miami, much less most of the US due to the emmission laws. I'm sure there are plenty of skylines, FC's and FD's in perfect working order over there right? you can import one for a few grand more then what you got the RX-8 for. Yohan at Speedshop in Hialeah will import an R-33 for about 32-36 grand legalized. theres a guy at my gym that has a gunmetal one that Yohan got early last year, one of his mechanics also has a silver GTR-33 and yohan has the white JDM RHD Supra he got for 33 grand legalized. You can still get them here just gotta know who to talk to. Civ good luck man, what ever car you get hope its been treated right and running solid. CassiesMan 05-02-2007, 01:02 AM yeah if would be very very if you can get a R32 GTR. hey mid to low 12's on stock turbos with bolt ons is awesome in my books. You can do that in the 335i with an ECU interceptor and exhaust...I love turbos. CivRacer95 05-02-2007, 10:25 AM I do live in Canada right now. Actually, that was just one shop that we dealt with that had Skylines. If you want to know a few of the cars they had just at that one shop I'll list them. 3 Skyline R32 GT-R's 1 Toyota (Lexus?) Soarer 1 Celica All-Trac 2 RHD Integra Type R's 1 Nissan S13(?) Sylvia 1 RSX Just at that one shop. There's about 5 other shops there. All of the lots were loaded with FD's, Skylines, Supras, 300zx TT's, and such. Like I said, I was a kid in a candy store. And yes, pictures do not do the R32 justice. I fell in love with those as soon as I touched it, hopped in, and revved the engine. AMAZING!! is all I can say. I love it up here. :) youngvr4 05-02-2007, 02:15 PM need a roomate? Its gonna take more than the Skyline to have Canada best us, lol. -The Stig- 05-02-2007, 10:36 PM They may get a Skyline, but they can't get bacon right. Chiquae07 05-02-2007, 11:52 PM forget bacon, you can only get that really huge greasy burger, with all that cheese, and toppings, just right in america. once in awhile, you just gotta have one. hate to say it, but i cant see why skylines are so praised upon. i mean sure its won a bunch of championships, but isnt it basically a evo or sti? i understand the point of the block is built like the supra 2jz's, with 600whp on stock internals and such, but i dont see the point of them. is it basically for bragging rights for being 'true JDM' and the feature car of F & F? i mean isnt the sti and evo weigh less than the skyline? i know that most skylines have super hiyas (cant spell it), which is also on 300zx's, and mitsubishi has their own version on 3000gt's. or is it something that i have to drive to experience it, to understand it? CassiesMan 05-03-2007, 01:18 AM People love the Skyline and make it out to be as much as a car as they do only for the simple reason of how hard it is to get one in the states. Think of how often you see a Skyline in person. Think of STI's and Evo's as trying to be Skylines (not the other way around). Think of a Twin Turbocharged 6 Cylinder engine with an AWD combo. Think of the stock internals and block handling more than the 3KGT, STI, and Evo. Think of how easy it is to tune and open up the Skyline. Think of RHD...etc. Start thinking of some of those things, and you just might start to realize the value, the want and need of owning a Skyline. There's definitely more to it. Try doing a little research. You'll start to know why people look for them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Skylines have been around since what, the 60/70's?? Gotian 05-03-2007, 10:05 AM I wasnt praising the skylines, i was prasing the fact that you have a dealership who imports the cars for you already and the cars are available for inspection and everything. Plus the fact that there are FC's and FD's over there that are in very good working order. RACER D12 05-03-2007, 11:45 AM People love the Skyline and make it out to be as much as a car as they do only for the simple reason of how hard it is to get one in the states. To me thats kind of the point of buying any car... to have something not everyone has. But yea its not king. CassiesMan 05-03-2007, 01:35 PM To me thats kind of the point of buying any car... to have something not everyone has. But yea its not king. I dunno, for the price of importing and legalizing and all that shit for a Skyline, I can think of a bunch of other cars I'd rather have that are just as exclusive. Try doing a little research. You'll start to know why people look for them. When I went to HIN in Dallas last year, they had five. Four R34 and an R33. The R33 and three of the R34s were Dallas cars, the other R34 was a Houston car. So, assuming I really wanted to see a Skyline in person that bad, I know where to look. I remeber at HIN, everyone was crowded around the Skylines, thought they were the greatest car known to man. None of them won any awards in anything. Hell, the best in Nissan class went to a 300ZXT. I know the Skyline is easy to tune, but it isn't the only one. Shit, for every fast Skyline out there, there is an equally fast Supra, FBody, Mustang, M3/5/6, EVO, STI/i, 3KGT, FC/D, Corvette, whatever. The only thing a Skyline really has (I don't count AWD as any sort of special amazing uber technological advantage) is the fact its RHD. I'm not taking away from the Skyline, I think it is a nice, fast car, but I honestly don't see why so many people think its the end all be all amazing super car they make it out to be. I like them for what they are, I just think its amazing on how people prop them up like they were created by the hand of God. I mean, c'mon. We all know that the LSx series runs on the Blood of Jesus. vectorspecialist 05-03-2007, 03:37 PM i personally think the skyline is a good car. i own a dodge stealth r/t twin turbo, and i've driven a r33. i have awd and aws, much like the skyline, difference is, the skyline's aws is ment for cornering, hence the reason it works at low speeds, mine works at 30mph+. would i buy a skyline if i could find one, no, my car suits wat i need, and for the price of a skyline, i can do the rhd conversion on my car and b satisfied. o for ne1 interested r33's are still leagle to import to the USA. canada will never best america, we have the ability too sue for our stupidity. so some facts for u on the skyline, built by prince motor's in the 60, then datsun then nissan. didnt become the gtr we know till 89, and died in 01. had 278hp in the r32, 300 in the r33, and 328 in the r34, all had awd and aws. no for the stealth/3000gt vr4(same car different body) started in 91 ended in 96/01(gto) 300hp 91-93 and 320hp 94+. awd and aws 91-93, awd 94+, aws wasnt something that was needed, and was expensive. the skyline engine can take a lot of power, but so can any car, just need the time and money for it. o and for your information, my stealth beat the r33 on a track, strait line and road course(both were stock) and he races in the scca whereas i only drive around town. so neways, the skyline is a nice car, just not a car worth 50g for importing to the USA in my humble opinion, there are many alternative's that r just as much fun to drive, and are just as quick. i would take it b4 a supra tho CivRacer95 05-03-2007, 04:19 PM 50K for the R33 is something I see. The R32 is much cheaper. I'm not disclosing the amount I personally can get it for. I've already done my research, and honestly, the price I can get one for is for me to know. I'm personally not trying to put a skyline on a pedestal. Cassiesman has said that for every quick Skyline, there are a handful of other cars out there that are just as quick. It's an enthusiasts choice to choose what he or she may want to own/mod/love. Think about it, last year Cassiesman, you consistently praised the M3. Over and over on numerous occassions you would compare the M3 to other cars. I'm sure you still do and would choose an M3 over any car. Why, because that's your bread and butter. Why would I choose a Skyline? Not exactly my bread and butter, but because I love them. I want one, and I would love to own one. Will I think highly of it, probably will. But, that's my choice because it's what I'm looking for. The rarity of it around here in my area is what makes it more of a gem to me. I'm still currently the only person here in my area to own a Turbo Spyder. I was the first to do it here as far as I know, and I haven't met another kid with one here. There is one GSX and one Talon TSI AWD, along with a few 1st gens as well. But still, no GS-T Spyder. None yet. I have plenty of people to vouche for me to say that I still am. Same goes for the Skyline. Haven't see one here yet, so I plan on being more "unique". I want to be the one around here that owns one of a kind vehicles. So far, I'm successful in doing so with the Eclipse. Next, if nobody comes along to buy a Skyline, I'll be the first with a Skyline. That's what I'm going for. If you think about it. Anyone who buys their own car of choice, puts it up on a pedestal. An M3 owner will think highly of M3's. A Supra owner will think highly of Supra's. A Corvette owner will think highly of Corvette's. That's that in truth. TatII 05-03-2007, 05:56 PM skylines are nice cars, but by todays standards, its not that impressive stock. the R32 weights less than an EVO or STi, so its definitly not that heavy. its also not that big in person either. the R33's however look like whales in person. yes you can say that a 335i can run that same time with mild bolt ons, but you gotta remember that the R32 is almost a 20 year old car. the most impressive thing about the GTR in my opinion is the AWD system. it doesn't rob the power all the time like a torsen diff found in Audi's or EVO's. its only AWD when its too. My co worker can kick the tail out on his GTR at will. the thing handles like a RWD car but with a shit load more gripe. off the line you'll see the rear wheels spin for half a second, then the torque gets sent to the front wheels and it just takes off like a bullet. from a highspeed roll on race where the AWD would hinder the EVO's and STi's performance, the GTR is RWD when it doesnt' need the extra traction. awesome system esp for such an old car. youngvr4 05-03-2007, 07:01 PM its praised because of its rarity(if thats a word) its more rare than a ferrari or lambo, atleast around here it is. i've seen two skylines on the street in my life and i've seen a shit load of ferraris and a handfull of lambo's the fact that its as easy as a supra to mod...bpu's can take it to about 450hp minor bolt ons and cheap. i praise the Z06 in a way that many praise the skyline, even though i see them pretty often. it is true for every skyline and supra modded theres a stang or evo..etc but how many of them do it on stock internals? got a evo with 900hp on stock internals? its a pretty strong engine as well as the supra. i personally see them as equals exept for the rarity Chiquae07 05-03-2007, 09:12 PM sounds like i just hijacked the crap out this thread, but o well. :dunno: hell, i've seen 1 skyline, and that was in miramar, fl this past thanksgiving. it was a r33 btw. silver. i said wow, thats the first time a saw a skyline, as it drove past. I dunno, for the price of importing and legalizing and all that shit for a Skyline, I can think of a bunch of other cars I'd rather have that are just as exclusive. thats imo too. i just dont see spending 50k on importing a skyline. i could care less how rare it is. but the one skyline i would want unlike some people is this one. the r31. i just love how it looks. idk, im more of a late 80s early 90s kinda guy when it comes to styling. http://www.carview.co.jp/magazine/special/2006/06nissan_skyline/take_car/skyline_06/images/01_l.jpg so to me, it sounds like the skyline's engine is a big part of it, as it can handle high horsepower on stock internals, easily. and also the electronic system for the awd, that makes it act as a rwd, then awd, then rwd, and fwd when traction is an issue. CassiesMan 05-03-2007, 09:23 PM To me the R32/R33 are the best looking of them. That, and I'm looking at new cars too, so I dunno. RACER D12 05-04-2007, 12:19 AM I dunno, for the price of importing and legalizing and all that shit for a Skyline, I can think of a bunch of other cars I'd rather have that are just as exclusive. If a cop wants to pull me over because I'm driving my registered "out-of-country" car, let em. Hell, I might as well get the Skyline registered in New York. The thing about being on the rez here is that for us Natives, transporting goods and importing is not an issue. Just a time consuming thing. A few days sitting at the customs is well worth it to me.
