I was looking at a website today and it had tons of sad stories about KIA cars. Basically they all sounded like horrible pieces of garbage. That must have been at the time that KIA was going under. I have never heard many horrible stories about Hyundais.

It seems like when Hyundai bought KIA, that the quality of the KIA products has gone up. My KIA is a decent car because of Hyundai.

As as aside, is it 10 to 30% of Hyundai is owned by GM? GM also owns about the same percentage of Subaru.

GM owns about 20% of Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru), about 20% of Suzuki, and about 12% of Isuzu (formerly 49%) as well as all of Saab, Opel, Vauxhall, and more than a few other companies. But none of Hyundai.

DaimlerChrysler owns about 10% of Hyundai and Mitsubishi owns some of Hyundai as well, of which DaimlerChrysler owns a small chunk of Mitsubishi.

GM is in a partnership with Hyundai on development of a new engine, but GM doesn' own any part of Hyundai. GM does own Daewoo Motor though. Kia quality was pretty much crap, but any new car company had to go through growing pains before they became good even the all mighty Honda.:D

Again, Hyundai is in partnership with Mitsubishi and DaimlerChrysler in engine development, not GM. GM, Suzuki, and a Chinese company purchased most of Daewoo's automotive assets and formed GM Daewoo Auto and Technology (GM DAT).

Daewoo is connected to GM, Hyundai is not.

Hi Kaoru!!! So Honda was always superior ??? So why are so many of the earlier cars holding baked beans !!! I admit that Honda products/generators/lawnmowers etc are now great quality and last forever but it took a little while here in the UK for the now quality cars to arrive. As for Hyundai quality. Price for price there aint anything to touch them (same with kia) and in the UK your car is more likely to be bashed to bits in a parking lot with shopping trolleys so if you are gong to buy a car buy Hyundai and at least it can be disposed of without to many tears. And Hyundai gave me 5 years unlimited mileage warranty in the UK, Kia gives 3yrs. Ford give one. Takes your pick.

In the States, Hyundai and Kia offer 10 year powertrain warranties.
