ok heres the deal.. and any help is so greatly appreciate you dont even kno!! lol

the key wouldnt come out of the ignition while infront of a store.. i sat there and tryed everything i could think..
the car wouldnt complelty turn off.. (the accesories were still on)
i couldnt get the key all they way back into the off position
but heres the tricky part..

the gear shift.. wouldnt budge .. not a bit
so pretty much i was screwed

so i said fudge it.. turned the car back on.. and yanked the gears back into drive and drove my happy a$$ home..

ok so ive figured how to get my key out the ignition (the little switch under the stearing column i pushed in and turned the key back all the way

but the car wont get back into park.. or reverse
its in drive now i can move it to D 3 2 1 i cant get it up into reverse or drive..

so once again thanx for takin the time to read this.. 96 se are definetly terrible cars.. from what ive read.. mark my word so many problems the car issues cost more than its worth..

Does the button on the shifter move in and out freely? Meaning the one you have to push to shift out of park. If not then thats your problem.

If it does move freely then you may have a bad brake switch (need to step on brake to shift):dunno:

Either way your key not comming all the way out, is b/c your car isnt in park....

You may also want to check the ERLS fuse in the engine bay, that fuse powers "transaxle range switch" and the "brake switch" and other components that are associated.

Someone else may have some more info....:dunno:

the button doesnt push in at allllll.. it would take 5 body builders to budget that thing.. lol

Disconnect the translock from under the shifter! It will make it able to take it out of gears.
