My first post. I have a 2003 Alero with 2.2. when stopped at a light I get a big shaking/vibration. The shaking is so bad that you can hardly see out the driver side mirror. If I put it in neutral it calms down some. The car has 54K and as far as I know has never had a tuneup (I bought the car with 47k). I was thinking it was motor mounts, but now maybe thinking something else. Any ideas?

Thanks
Scott

I have a 2000 Alero and it does the same thing, although not as bad. I have not figured out why this occurs either. Please let me know if you figure anything out. Thanks!

I had the exact same issue. I replaced two of the 3 motor mounts and it fixed the vibration. What happens is after the mounts are old they sag and the engine/tranny will hit the frame and vibrate. The reason it don't happen in nuetral is because the engine is not pulling at that time.

Is there anyway to tell which ones? Do they go bad without cause?, I mean this car had 47k on it when I bought it. Since the vibration is only on one side (driver) can I assume it is on that side of car?
