The F.A.Q. thread got me trouble codes and diagrams, but anyone actually did it?

Try the Factory Service Manuals "sticky" thread at the top of the forum.

Sure have. It's way back in front of the gas tank.

Believe it or not, the best resource I had for testing the canister components was the Haynes manual for the car - available for $15 at many auto parts stores.

This manual gave detailed instructions on how to test the various components of the canister. By doing so, I was able to identify a $30 part as the cause of the problem, and didn't have to replace the entire canister - cost of about $250.

Even funnier, was that the Toyota dealer's part database, didn't show the canister components, it only had the canister listed as being a single replaceable part - but I was able to read the "rusty" part number off the component, had him look it up by part number, and sure enough - they had it in stock. I though this was kind of funny that they stock parts that their part lookup software doesn't list.

I jacked up the back of my car on tracks today and took a look under it, the harness that holds the VSV that I basically want to change is so rusty I don't think I'll be able to unscrew the bolt, I still lubed it up I'll see if I can take the VSV out, if I can take it out i'm definitely changing it.

I have a Haynes manuel, but last time I checked it seemed like it needs an electrical testor and I don't have that.....yet. But thanks for the info

Try some PB Blaster. It really works well.
