Ok, folks here sure seem to know best about the Malibu, so thought I'd ask. I've read to use the plain white Purolator oil filter. So here's the deal. I've a <gasp> dodge intrepid with near 300.000 miles on it. I've tried several different types a filters on it, Fram being the worst.I can put a filter on this car that it doesn't like, and with the high miles it'll have top end rattle within a week.

Best I've found to use on it's the cheap Wal-Mart brand filter. Smoothes right out, and the top end rattle goes away in a day or so. So, what's the best filter to use on my little Malibu 3.1 V6, as far as calming down the top end rattle ? The Malibu isn't bad, but it does have 130.000 miles on it, so it does have a little top end rattle when started cold. This goes away soon as it run's for a little bit.

Filter suggestions ? I prefer Pennzoil as far as oil. Should I go with the recommended 5W30, or 10W30 ?
Thanks.

Havoline 5w-30 and white Purolaters have proven to be the quietest combo on my 01 Malibu.
