what are the normal rpms in a 3.4razial22 04-20-2007, 03:59 PM just wanted to find out be comparrison if there was something wrong with my 2000 alero 3.4. at about 40-45 it almost seems like i "lose" alittle power and my rpms are running at 1200, at 60 i'm running at just a hair over 2k. is this normal or alittle off? whats do your 3.4's rev at when driveing at these speeds? thanx all l8rs BNaylor 04-21-2007, 11:43 AM That sounds about right. At around 40-45 mph it will shift automatically to 4th gear - overdrive and on top of that the torque convertor clutch (TCC) locks up which will drop rpms by a few hundred which is for fuel economy. scoopy03 04-22-2007, 01:43 AM just wanted to find out be comparrison if there was something wrong with my 2000 alero 3.4. at about 40-45 it almost seems like i "lose" alittle power and my rpms are running at 1200, at 60 i'm running at just a hair over 2k. is this normal or alittle off? whats do your 3.4's rev at when driveing at these speeds? thanx all l8rs they have a 3.24 ratio so around 70 it should be like 2200 60 right below 2k or around it 1200 rpm sounds right for 40 mph mine is like a little above 1k and between 1250 razial22 04-22-2007, 06:05 AM hehe alright thanx guys. for as long as i've owned this car i guess i never really pay any attention to the rpms at steady speeds before, i drive it for 10+ hours a night but never at 1 specific speed for more then about a minute. guess its running ok for once lol. now to figure out which of the new wheel speed sensors is pissing me off, l8rs BNaylor 04-22-2007, 09:57 AM they have a 3.24 ratio so around 70 it should be like 2200 60 right below 2k or around it 1200 rpm sounds right for 40 mph mine is like a little above 1k and between 1250 How did you determine you have a 3.24:1 final drive ratio? I have the 3.05:1 ratio which is GM RPO code F83. scoopy03 04-23-2007, 12:15 AM How did you determine you have a 3.24:1 final drive ratio? I have the 3.05:1 ratio which is GM RPO code F83. well if it is the 4t45e MN5 trans it has 3.05 ratio vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
