Not even trying to hide the real manufacturer ... save money on K&Ns!

So I wanted to buy a K&N air filter for my non-turbo MR2.
I looked up the universal size I wanted on K&N's site and then went to Summit Racing to order it.

I searched summit for part # RE-0810 which brought up two identical looking air filters.
The K&N for $41.69 and the Summit filter for $34.95.

I figured Summit just has theirs manufactured by K&N, but I would have expected them not to advertise such a thing.

Well the part just arrived, complete with K&N sticker, K&N platis wrap around the filter and even the K&N molded rubber on the end of the filter.

So really, the only reason to spend the extra $6.74 is so that you have K&N listed on your receipt.

Although you've got to factor in this...

How much did you pay for shipping & handling for that "Summit" filter?

For most cars and applications, you can go down to the local autoparts store and get the K&N filter for a decent price and only pay a small percentage of tax. Rather than paying a few bucks in shipping & handling charges and in some cases, tax as well.

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy it from a local store, than from a catalog. Unless you're doing multiple items and then you can save on shipping that way. I try to buy from local businesses as much as possible, if only to help support my surrounding community.. eh I'm old fashion that way.

Still... funny that it's cheaper to buy the "Summit" filter which is still a K&N anyways.

BeZerK2112, me too ... I've bought many K&Ns through Summit.

-The Stig-, if you catch in the first post I mentioned looking for universal sizes. I never buy a K&N kit for a specific car and our local parts stores never stock un-kitted K&Ns.

Since this was all I ordered, I did pay a bit much for handling (Summit never charges for shipping)., but the handling fee would have been the same for the Summit filter or the K&N. Either way, it would be competitive with the local stores and I could order it from my desk at work and have it show up ast my desk 2 days later :)

Well, yeah... where do you think the "oil" on the filter comes from?
