Should I go get the timing belt changed or try doing it myself? My buddy is highly educated in the automotives field.

If you have someone who can help you, and knows what they're doing, then save the $ and do it yourself (w/help).

I had my dad who is a mechanic do mine, nice and easy, as long as you dont rotate anything, while the belt is removed. the hardest bit was removing all the bits in the way, now its done, it sings like a angel. ^_^
