how will a '91 roadmaster estate adapt to the north?

I will be moving from Miami to Montana soon. I have a 1991 Roadmaster Estate, 140,000 miles on it. I have a rebuilt 700r4 transmission, with the towing package. How will my car handle on the hills and Mountains for the long trip? and most importantly, will it adapt to the colder climate? This car is originally from Jacksonville, Fl, and has never been in a cold climate.

It will handle just fine. My '95 Roadmaster originally spent a good part of it's life in Florida before "moving" to New York and survived very well. It might be a good idea to flush the cooling system and make sure when you install new coolant, you put enough of it in to reach at least -30 since it is much colder in Montana than Florida. I would think the coolant in there now is not set quite as low. Depending on how old your battery is in the car I would keep an eye on it once the weather turns cold again later in the year. If it's spent all of it's life in a warm climate, it might be quite a shock when it "experiences" a Montana cold snap and that might be enough to reduce it's life, especially if it's on the weak side due to age. When replacing the battery when it comes time you might consider upgrading to a higher CCA rated battery. One more point on the cooling system flush. Make sure your heater core gets a thorough cleaning. You will use it more in Montana and the Roadmasters have been known to have problems with older heater cores. Making sure it's clean might reduce the chances of problems. Before your trip check your transmission fluid and make sure it's the proper color and that the level is within acceptable operating range .
