Like I stated, both of these are not working and I have a good feeling that the problem is in the wiring behind the steering wheel airbag. I have a 1998 Chevrolet Prizm. Anyone know how to remove this easily so I can have a look at what the problem might be?

Hello:
A Geo Prizm is a Toyota built vehicle. You are probaly correct in assuming the probelm with your car is a damaged 'clockspring'. This component may or may not be available by itself and should only be purchased from the dealer. A used one may geive you more trouble than you already have.
To diassemble it, you will need to
1) disconnect the battery and wait 10 minutes
2) unbolt the airbag (2 - 30torx bolt on the sides through acces holes)
3) remove the wires attaching the airbag to the column
4) remove the steering wheel (MARK THE POSITION THE WHEEL WAS IN)
5) remobve the steerong column covers
6) remove and replace the clockspring attached to the multifunction switch

Installation is the reverse procedure
