1999 Grand AM GT power steering mjtr21 04-07-2007, 12:05 PM
I have a 99 Grand AM GT and I was wondering about the power steering hose. It's the hose that is pressurized. I noticed that mine is leaking and wa wondering if it's hard to replace? Also would I have to relieve the pressure somehow and take some of the fluid out? Why is there a difference for one with the VASA and one without the VASA. Thanks. xeroinfinity 04-07-2007, 03:27 PM The pressure line would usually only have high pressure when the pump is running. After it was shut off for a while pressure will decrease. Fluid should be drained , it is easier to drain when you loosen one of the bottom PS hoses. You will need to put the car up on jack stands or ramps if you can get it on those. Most ramps hit the front bumper though  Bleeding the system of air is another thing that can be difficult. I wrote a procedure for this in the Tips and Maintenance (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=2148). Here's that link, Bleeding your Grand am's Powersteering (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=674257) Good Luck ps a line wrench works best removing these lines. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
